Carrick starts tenure with “magic” promise at United

Michael Carrick revealed his “immense pride” at being officially announced as Manchester United’s permanent head coach. United have confirmed Carrick has signed a two-year contract, with the option of a 12-month extension. Following Ruben Amorim’s sacking in January, Carrick returned to the club on an interim basis and exceeded expectations by winning 11 of his 16 games. United qualified for next season’s Champions League with three matches to spare in the Premier League , but Carrick set the right tone when he said that returning
to Europe’s elite competition should not be overcelebrated. Speaking after United’s announcement of Carrick’s appointment, he said: “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United . “Carrying the responsibility
of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride. Throughout the past five months this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here. “Now it’s time to move forward together, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.” United’s director of football Jason Wilcox added: “Michael has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men’s team.
In the time he has been doing the role, we have seen positive results on the pitch, but more than that, an approach which aligns with the club’s values, traditions and history. “Michael’s achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated. He has forged a strong bond with the players and can be proud of the winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are continuing to build.” Since his appointment, Carrick has beaten Manchester City
, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool , meaning he has outfoxed the likes of Pep Guardiola , Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery and Arne Slot. United have won 36 points in the Premier League with Carrick in charge, the most of any club in the top-flight in that same period. Carrick has been supported by a backroom staff of Steve Holland (assistant manager), Jonathan Woodgate (first-team coach), Jonny Evans (first-team coach) and Travis Binnion (first-team coach).

“Magic” promise?? lol we’ll see. Carrick used to be a legend but being coach is different.
So he won like a bunch of games and suddenly it’s permanent? I mean good for him, but I’m still annoyed about Amorim getting sacked like that. Also Champions League “not overcelebrated” is such United PR.
Carrick outfoxed Pep and Arsenal etc… but didn’t they say the same thing about other managers? This feels like the club just picked the safe option. Like if City or Liverpool were hurt maybe anyone could get top 4.
Amorim was sacked in January, right? And Carrick came in midseason and somehow got CL with “three matches to spare”?? That sounds exaggerated. Either way I don’t trust it because contracts with options always mean they already know they’re gonna dump him after the first bad run. That “magic” quote is cringey too.
