Miami, Fort Lauderdale face dangerous heat Monday

By the time the first lunch-hour errands usually start in South Florida, the warning is already in place: Monday is shaping up to bring dangerous heat, as a prolonged stretch of elevated temperatures continues across the region.
The National Weather Service says a major heat risk is in effect for parts of South Florida, primarily along the east coast. That includes some of the Miami area, Fort Lauderdale, and Homestead.
Forecasters are calling for highs of 92 degrees for Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach on June 22. Homestead is expected to reach 93 degrees.
The concern isn’t just the thermometer. The National Weather Service points to heat indices—often described as “feels-like” temperatures—that can climb to levels associated with serious harm. A heat index of equal to or greater than 103 degrees. the agency said. “can lead to dangerous heat disorders with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity in the heat.”.
