In Miami, the heat index is forecast to peak at 105 degrees on June 2. Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Homestead are expected to see heat indices around 102 degrees.
Storm threats are layered into the same day of extreme heat. The NWS also lists a marginal risk—level one of five—for severe storms over the northeastern portion of South Florida, including Belle Glade, West Palm Beach and Boca Raton. The window for potential storms runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The weather service expects hazards to be more common than widespread: “outside of isolated hail/wind. ” the most likely concerns are heavy rainfall and lightning. It also says isolated strong to severe wind gusts and marginally severe hail will be possible with the strongest storms. and that localized flooding can’t be ruled out.
