Fortnite fans rage after controversial streamer collaboration

Fortnite fans – Fortnite’s next-season tease for Chapter 7: Season 3 sparked a toxic pile-on after artwork suggested a character inspired by TheBurntPeanut, a streamer accused of homophobic language. Fans quickly split—some demand background checks, others call out harassment

When Fortnite teased what’s coming next for Chapter 7: Season 3, many players expected the usual seasonal buzz. Instead, the conversation turned into an argument that spilled far beyond the game.

The catalyst was a piece of artwork that appears to show the Fortnite startup screen for Chapter 7: Season 3. In it was an in-game creature seemingly inspired by TheBurntPeanut. For fans already braced for the next round of story drama—Ice King versus Foundation—this one reveal landed like a spark in dry grass.

The first wave was strongly negative. Some players shared clips and pointed to accusations that TheBurntPeanut used homophobic language online. including links to him allegedly using the F-slur. Other reactions referenced an incident where he was accused of laughing at a fellow player who appears to begin saying the N-word.

One prominent Fortnite fan on X/Twitter, Blortzen, reacted bluntly: “I just don’t understand man, it’s really not that hard to do background checks, Epic Games is literally allergic to them for no reason.”

The timing made it worse for many. Several users linked the backlash to the reveal happening at the beginning of a month associated with Pride.

As confusion swirled over who the character was meant to be inspired by, Fortnite’s senior director Chris—known online as “EpicTofu”—confirmed the creature was designed to be a TheBurntPeanut collaboration. That confirmation prompted hundreds of negative responses directed at the post.

The pushback didn’t stop at the streamer’s inclusion. Hours after the confirmation. an alleged screenshot surfaced from a private group chat where an account that appears to be Chris said they were planning to take a break from communication. The reason given was that online toxicity had begun impacting his personal life.

That claim triggered a second backlash: fans started calling out some of the language aimed at Chris, saying he appeared unaware of the streamer’s past.

Blortzen later posted again. saying: “You guys bullied one of the people who brought STRONG communication to this game all because you have no brain power to realize he is not responsible for every single little thing added to this game. “Genuinely pathetic behaviour from all of you who harassed him.”.

Shiina, a high profile Fortnite leaker, put it in broader terms about the wider community. “So many devs were active on here ever since this chapter dropped. showing genuine excitement for upcoming seasons. the Ice King & Foundation rivalry. the Community Day. and they even played Fortnite with the community. ” she wrote. “But it only takes 1(!) collab that the usual negativity spreaders do not like for them to harass the devs to the point where they no longer feel comfortable spending their time on this platform… disappointed but honestly not even surprised. I don’t need this collab either, but it would never cross my mind to harass the developers because of this.”.

The sequence of reactions is now hard to miss: a collaboration tease leads to condemnation. condemnation leads to attacks. and those attacks then circle back into criticism of the harassment itself—centered not only on the streamer involved. but on the developers who interacted with the community in the first place.

The dispute is landing in the middle of a still-ramping season schedule. Chapter 7: Season 3 is scheduled to kick off this Saturday, June 6, following a climactic live event the day before. That event will bring Ice King and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Foundation to their conclusion. with players’ experiences in the showdown set to differ depending on which side they picked this season.

After downtime, Fortnite returns online with its next season, named Runners. That follow-up is described as bringing back creatures that look to be new versions of the game’s previous Sprites. Those critters are said to be found across the battle royale Island. offering power-ups or special abilities. and could be carried around. The suggestion is that TheBurntPeanut variant—described as one of many additional varities—will act in the same way.

Epic Games has not been publicly detailed further in the reporting so far. IGN has contacted Epic Games for comment and will update if it hears back.

For now, Fortnite’s community is stuck between two realities: a storyline that’s about to hit its next chapter, and a player base that—at least online—can’t stop arguing about what should never have needed arguing in the first place.
