Friday morning started with a familiar kind of disruption—only this time, it hit two of Meta’s biggest consumer platforms at once.
Facebook and Instagram were suffering from widespread outages, according to outage reports that spiked on the third-party website DownDetector.com. Meta’s communication director. Andy Stone. acknowledged the problem in a post on X. writing: “We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. ” adding. “We’re working on it.”.
The trouble wasn’t limited to scrolling and messaging. Meta’s systems dashboard page showed “high disruptions” for its Facebook Ads Manager, Messenger API, Messenger platform, and WhatsApp Business Platform on Friday.
Users moved quickly to X to trade updates and frustrations. One user wrote that it was “the third time Facebook has gone down this week. ” saying every time “it takes Instagram. WhatsApp. and Messenger down with it.” Another added. “Anybody else just been logged out of Facebook messenger and can’t log back in?. Unknown error.”.
As the outage stretched beyond the apps themselves, some users tried to process the disruption with humor. One post read, “QUICK EVERYONE GO OUTSIDE AND TOUCH GRASS,” attributed to Peter Czepiga (@peterczepiga) and dated June 12, 2026. Others shared memes, including “Everyone’s yearly instagram down drill to X,” paired with a GIF of a crowd.
The sequence is clear in the reports: outages for Facebook and Instagram coincided with “high disruptions” across Meta’s advertising and messaging infrastructure. and user complaints pointed to failures that went beyond simply not loading feeds—people also described being logged out and unable to sign back in. Stone’s response that Meta was “working on it” landed as frustration continued across the company’s connected services.

Facebook and Instagram just froze again??
My Messenger logged me out and now it’s saying unknown error like 5 times. I didn’t even do anything lol. Probably a “security update” or whatever.
So they’re saying ads manager and WhatsApp business too… but it only affects my personal stuff? Sounds like sabotage or they broke the login on purpose. Also people keep saying “third time this week” but I’m not sure if that’s true, just seems like it.
This is why I don’t trust anything from Meta, like they can’t even keep the basics working. First it’s ‘scrolling issues’ then suddenly you can’t log back in to Messenger… makes no sense. And the timing with all the ads/messaging disruptions sounds like one big server problem, but then again they always blame “working on it” and magically it comes back when it wants.
