Megyn Kelly Defends Trump After Nodding-Off Scrutiny

Megyn Kelly pushed back on growing concerns about President Donald Trump appearing unable to stay awake, arguing “occasionally nodding off” could have a non-medical explanation. Her defense came days after she criticized Trump for infidelity and discussed alle

For days, viewers have watched President Donald Trump appear to nod off during public moments—and for Kelly, the question isn’t whether it looks bad. It’s why the conversation has gone straight to medical alarms.

On Tuesday. political commentator Megyn Kelly defended the president for “occasionally nodding off” in public. even as renewed health scrutiny swirled around him. “I love how Trump occasionally nodding off has got to be some secret. scary medical issue (obviously they’re raising his fitness for office). ” she wrote. “Maybe it’s just that he doesn’t sleep much at night and these events are … kinda long/dry/not that scintillating?”.

Her remarks tracked a new wave of attention triggered by a medical analyst’s comments. A Mediaite story cited CNN’s medical analyst, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who questioned Trump’s apparent inability to stay awake during some events.

The timing mattered. The story was published Tuesday—the same day Trump underwent another physical exam at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. During the examination. Reiner said: “The president has severe daytime somnolence.” He added. “He falls asleep very often.” Reiner also pointed to what he described as repeated lapses. saying Trump “has fallen asleep in the Oval Office on multiple occasions with people talking to him in the cabinet room. ” and that there was concern “yesterday that he might have fallen asleep at Arlington National Cemetery during Memorial Day observances.”.

Trump, for his part, sounded confident about the appointment. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday. he boasted that his three-hour medical visit went “perfectly.” The president wrote. “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY,” and added, “Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff!”.

The exam was his third scheduled medical appointment at Walter Reed in 13 months, and it comes amid rising concerns about his cognitive and physical health, ABC News reports.

Kelly’s defense is also a dramatic shift in tone from only days earlier, when she was much sharper about Trump’s personal conduct. Last week, she accused him of frequent infidelity and discussed the history of his marriages more directly.

During the Friday episode of the “Hodgetwins Podcast. ” Kelly said. “I mean. Trump has cheated on every wife he’s had.” She added that he “met Marla Maples while he was still married to the mother of his children. Ivana [Trump]. It was all over the New York papers … Like he was proud of the affair!”.

She then turned to the allegation Ivana Trump made about Donald Trump. “And by the way, Ivana, his first wife, accused him of raping her,” Kelly said. She also noted the later retraction. saying. “The late Ivana Trump later retracted the allegation in 2015 after Donald Trump announced he was running for president. Trump has repeatedly denied the 1989 incident. Kelly also hedged the claim. adding. “I don’t know whether that’s true or not. but just saying. clearly not a great relationship there.”.

And when she addressed Trump’s current relationship with first lady Melania Trump, Kelly delivered another blunt line: “If you think Trump’s been faithful to Melania, that’s great. You’ve got bigger issues than I can solve here.”

Taken together. the two moments land like a portrait of a commentator changing her focus—at least publicly—while Trump’s health and fitness for office remain a live political argument. After months of increasingly distancing herself from the president. Kelly chose. this week. to defend him on “occasionally nodding off. ” offering a mundane explanation rather than medical one—even as the day’s headlines were dominated by Walter Reed scrutiny and the claim of “severe daytime somnolence.”.

  1. I mean if events are boring and he’s up late, of course he’s gonna nod off. People act like it’s automatically “severe” or whatever. Also he was just at Walter Reed… you’d think they’d know, right?

  2. Megyn is acting like this is just “not sleeping much at night” which makes me think he’s drinking coffee all day or something? But then they’re saying “severe daytime somnolence” like that’s totally different. And the Oval Office thing, come on, how do they even know he fell asleep? I feel like half of this is just people trying to hate on him.

  3. Nodding off isn’t proof of anything, it could be literally jet lag or bad lighting or he’s listening to someone ramble. But then the same article mentions he “underwent another physical exam” so if it was normal they’d say that more, not just “perfectly” on Truth Social. Plus, Arlington during Memorial Day?? I dunno, maybe it was just one quick moment. Everybody’s so quick to call it “medical alarms” when half the time it’s politics. Also Megyn defended him so that means she probably thinks the same thing about the health stuff before?
