Mega Millions climbs to $430 million for June 16

Ahead of the Tuesday, June 16 Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot has grown to $430 million with a $191.2 million cash option—continuing a run that has lasted nearly three months without a winner.

The Mega Millions jackpot is sitting at $430 million as the Tuesday, June 16 drawing approaches, and for millions of players the countdown comes with the same familiar question: how do you even think about money that big until you have it.

This prize has been building for nearly three months without a winner. The last jackpot—a $60 million prize—was claimed by an Ohio player on St. Patrick’s Day.

The June 16 jackpot comes with a $191.2 million cash option. If someone wins by matching all six numbers tonight, they’ll face a choice between a one-time lump sum payment or annuity payments that increase by 5% each year.

For anyone planning to play, the process is straightforward. Players choose six numbers: five white balls from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 24. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at retail locations or, in some states, online. Players can also select a Quick Pick, which generates numbers randomly. All tickets include a built-in multiplier that boosts non-jackpot prizes.

The next drawing after June 16 is scheduled for Friday, June 19, at 11 p.m. ET.

With the next drawing just hours away, the jackpot’s size—and the cash-vs-annuity decision that would follow—are what stand out most in the final stretch of this run without a winner.

  1. So if nobody wins for like 3 months they just keep adding it? That’s wild. I never get how the “cash option” works though—191.2 million sounds way less than 430, so what’s the catch.

  2. Quick pick is the only way I play because I’m not thinking about numbers like I’m in a casino. Also annuity increasing by 5% each year is probably meaningless if taxes take half anyway. Didn’t Ohio already win something on St. Patrick’s Day so how is it still climbing, shouldn’t that have ended it?

  3. Mega Millions always feels rigged, like the jackpot is gonna hit 1 billion eventually and then boom, one winner. The odds are terrible but people still buy tickets like it’s free money. $5 for a ticket is whatever, but matching all six numbers… like the Mega Ball part always gets me, it’s always the one you didn’t pick. If I win I’m definitely taking the lump sum, unless annuity means you get more later which is basically the same thing, right?
