Manchester United press Atalanta for Ederson deal

Manchester United have continued talks with Atalanta for Ederson after a proposed move to Atletico Madrid broke down, with the Italians valuing the 26-year-old at £34.5m plus £4.3m in add-ons.

By the time Atletico Madrid’s interest cooled, Ederson’s name was already back in motion. Manchester United have continued their talks with Atalanta for the Brazil midfielder. with the Italians understood to be seeking a fee of £34.5million plus a further £4.3m in add-ons after seeing a deal with Atletico Madrid break down.

Ederson is 26 and is keen to join United. He has been on United’s radar for a long time. and talks have kept going as the club weighs up multiple midfield routes during a summer shaped by both ambition and availability. United may find Ederson more achievable than some other targets because of inflated valuations across the market.

United are also working through a wider midfield picture after already posting their interest earlier this year and now pushing for at least two new options in the position. Casemiro is expected to leave, with his next step understood to be Inter Miami. Manuel Ugarte is also drawing interest from Turkey and Ajax, adding pressure to get recruitment right rather than simply rush.

For Ederson to move, United would still need his wage demands to fit their structure. The going rate is around £150,000 a week, plus Champions League bonus payments, and the club’s willingness will hinge on whether Ederson and his representatives fall in line.

There is also timing and context behind the interest. Ederson was omitted from Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad. and in the years since he has become one of Atalanta’s star performers. He has one year left on his contract. which makes the next decision more urgent for the player and more strategic for the buyer.

The midfield conversations are not centered on Ederson alone. United have discussed Nottingham Forest’s £90m-rated Elliot Anderson, who is expected to join Manchester City. They have also looked at West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. while Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali has been considered. although his valuation has dampened early interest.

United’s shortlist extends beyond Italy and England’s top flight. Aurelien Tchouameni is admired if he becomes available after Real Madrid interest. with Real Madrid also linked to United’s broader footballing conversations. There is further attention on Rodri at Manchester City and Morten Hjulmand at Sporting Lisbon.

The picture at the same time is crowded beyond United’s own plans. Atletico Madrid are continuing talks to sign Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, and they have joined the queue for City’s soon-to-be free agent Bernardo Silva.

When you line up the moving pieces—Atalanta’s pricing after Atletico’s breakdown. United’s need to replace a midfield core that’s about to change. and the wage framework Ederson would have to accept—the Ederson path looks like the kind of deal that can progress quickly if the numbers align. For United, it is also one of the clearer tests of how decisive they can be once the market shifts.
