Brissett-Cardinals talks stall as contract gap grows

Brissett Cardinals – The Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Jacoby Brissett are “significantly” far apart on negotiations to rework the last year of his contract for 2026, putting his offseason participation in doubt ahead of voluntary OTAs.
The Arizona Cardinals are trying to make progress in the NFC West, but the offseason noise has a sharp edge. The division already looks brutal on paper. with the Cardinals set to play the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks twice and also face the explosive Los Angeles Rams and the dangerous San Francisco 49ers.
Against that backdrop, negotiations involving Jacoby Brissett have become a problem the team can’t afford to ignore. The Cardinals and the quarterback are “significantly” far apart in reworking the last year of his contract for 2026, a source told ESPN.
That gap is now casting doubt over whether Brissett will even show up for Arizona’s voluntary offseason program. The contract talks are not progressing effectively, and there are no guarantees that Brissett will take part in the team’s voluntary OTAs next week.
Brissett is entering the final year of his deal after agreeing to stay in Arizona last season on a two-year, $12.5 million contract. For 2026, he carries a base salary of $4.88 million and a cap hit of $9.19 million, figures that sit well below what teams typically expect from a quarterback.
The Cardinals, though, are still planning around him. They intend to move forward this year with Brissett at quarterback for a second consecutive season, and they believe there could be a boost in the running game with rookie Jeremiyah Love, described here as a potential superstar.
If Love does deliver an upgrade to Arizona’s attack. Brissett’s role could become easier to define—at least on the field—built on the numbers he produced last season. Brissett completed 315 of 485 passes for 3,366 yards with 23 TDs and 8 interceptions. He is also a 10-year veteran who has played with six teams. spending four seasons with the Colts. two with the Patriots. and single seasons with four other teams. including the Cardinals.
The pressure on this situation is simple: Arizona needs stability as it prepares to face top-level opponents twice. while its quarterback talks are stuck in neutral. With no guarantees Brissett will be at voluntary OTAs next week. the Cardinals now have to decide how much uncertainty they can carry into the most basic part of getting ready for the season.
