This week. he launched a new segment called “Talk With The People. ” a program designed to let users across platforms ask him about the state of the city. The idea pays homage to a radio tradition associated with former NYC mayor Fiorello LaGuardia’s program. but the format lands firmly in today’s online attention economy: livestreams. chat. and on-the-spot answers.
The move follows Mamdani’s earlier push to get the public talking—this time, it’s less about asking questions on the campaign trail and more about responding to residents in real time.
In his first stream, he went live on Thursday, May 21. The session. which lasted around 38 minutes. touched on city-wide announcements and ranged widely as questions came in—from sports to local food. When asked about the best taco spot in the city, Mamdani named Los Tacos No. 1 and Taqueria Ramirez.
While the mayor’s office described the streams as “regularly recurring,” it did not immediately confirm how frequently New Yorkers can expect Mamdani to go live.
