Rotherham mum sheds 14 stone after health scare

A mum who once felt like the ‘biggest’ on the school run after gorging on sausage rolls and pork pies daily has revealed how she lost over 14 stone without exercise. Stepping on the scales, Janine Hurst was horrified at the number staring back to her. The 35 year old weighed in at 25 stone and wore a UK dress size 30 at her heaviest. While her kids, aged six, four and two, all ate healthy meals, she would often turn to stodgy goods such

as sausage rolls and pork pies. For dinner, it was no better – with greasy Chinese takeaways or dripping kebabs on the menu, which quickly amounted to £6,200 over the year. It left Janine dreading the school run – all because of her size. “I was the fattest mum in the playground,” the stay-at-home mum from Rotherham said. “I used to stand at the school gates, keep my head down and try to get away as fast as I could.” Janine had always struggled with

comfort eating. But after two of her kids were diagnosed with autism, this went into overdrive. As she “gave up” on herself, the mum of three would skip breakfast, before grazing on the aforementioned pastries. To wash it down, she’d have nine cans of energy drink. It was affecting her health and mobility, which became clear when her eldest child had a “meltdown”. She said: “I was heaving myself off the floor as I tried to calm her down. “And then my shoulder popped out

of its socket. After seeing the doctor, it was clear my weight was putting too much pressure on my body. “If I kept eating the way I was, I would be dead very soon. The idea of not being around for my kids was overwhelming.” Janine had success with Slimming World a few years prior, shifting over five stone. But, after falling pregnant, she went back to old habits. She didn’t give up, though, and decided to overhaul her diet. What Janine now eats Janine

now starts off her day with an English breakfast fried in low-calorie spray, followed by salmon and salad for lunch. At dinner time, it’s typically a roast with piles of vegetables – and, instead of Yorkies, she has boiled potatoes. After one week, over 14lb had been shed. And, one year later, six stone had been lost. Now, she’s a trim 10st 6lbs and wears a dress size 12. She added: “It’s changed my life. I can run around with my kids and join in

when doing silly TikTok dances. “At the school gates, they can’t get rid of me. I’m there chatting for hours. “Like many other mums, I’d put my needs last. But, by finally choosing myself, I’ve become the mum I always wanted to be.”
