Despite all wishful thinking, we live in an imperfect world

He was absolutely right, of course. And most of us will acknowledge and appreciate this fundamental truth sooner than later. Have you ever watched a child as they learn to ride a bike, or a toddler learning to walk? They will stumble and fall many times before getting it right. Mistakes should be considered learning opportunities. It often takes failure after failure to achieve success. That said, we humans expect to be kept safe in our everyday lives and we attach great importance to consistency
and predictability. We assume the sun will rise each and every morning and we trust we will survive to live another day. It’s a comforting delusion as we make believe absolutely nothing can do us harm. It’s human nature, I suppose. But the fact is, there are no guarantees. Life is, and always will be, unpredictable. We tend to suppress this truth until the ground suddenly disappears beneath our feet. As once again we face the harsh reality that all lives have their fair share
of disappointments, adversity and pain. Each and every one of us must occasionally cope with heartbreaking, personal loss. No one gets out of this life without a few scars. Still, if you have never known sadness, heartbreak or despair, you can never fully appreciate what it is to be truly happy and fulfilled.
imperfect world, uncertainty, predictability, mistakes, learning opportunities, adversity, personal loss, scars, sadness, happiness
So basically nothing is guaranteed, cool.
I get the message I guess but it feels like one of those “life is hard” posts. Like thanks, I already knew. People really need to stop acting shocked when bad stuff happens.
Not gonna lie, this sounds like they’re saying “mistakes are learning” but also “you’re gonna get hurt anyway.” Which is it? Also I swear I’ve seen this exact same quote before, and it was about taxes or something, so idk.
The way it talks about loss and scars makes it sound kind of doom-y. Like, what is the point, to just accept it and do nothing? My cousin said if you stay “consistent” you won’t get blindsided, but then bad things still happen so maybe the whole thing is just a long motivational speech. Either way I don’t trust “no guarantees” when people are out here promising safety programs and all that.
