Belgium’s spring runs warm, swings extreme across 2026

The average temperature for spring 2026 was 12.1°C, well above the average of 10.5°C, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) announced on Monday. This made it the third warmest spring since observations began in 1833, reports RTBF. As usual, the season was marked by alternating periods of cooler and warmer weather. The lowest temperature recorded in Uccle was -1.3°C on 27 March, while the highest was 30.5°C on 29 May. In total, the RMI recorded nine summer-like days with temperatures of 25°C or higher. This figure

places spring 2026 as the third warmest. Only 2018 (13 days) and 2007 (11 days ) saw longer periods of warmth in spring. In addition, two tropical days were recorded with temperatures of 30°C or higher. These high temperatures were accompanied by significant hours of sunshine. In Uccle, the three spring months were sunnier than average. In total, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) recorded 644 hours and 18 minutes of sunshine. Although both March and May were wetter than average, April was very dry. The

total quantity of rainfall this spring was 155.6 millimetres, which was below the usual figure of 165.6 millimetres. For May in particular, the average monthly temperature of 15.4°C was also well above the normal temperature of 13.9°C. The month of May was marked by extreme temperatures, as evidenced by the readings taken in Uccle: from 2.8 °C on 15 May to 30.5 °C on 29 May.
