New Leo Express route to link Frankfurt and Ukraine

A new inter-European train service, set to launch on June 25th, will link Frankfurt am Main directly to the Poland-Ukraine border, as well as a number of other German, Czech and Polish cities in between. Operated by international train and bus operator, Leo Express, the new route spans more than 1,300 kilometres and is set to be one of the longest direct train lines in Europe. It connects Przemyśl (on the border with Ukraine) to Kraków in Poland and to Prague in the Czech Republic

before extending to Germany where it links Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt to the nation’s largest airport in Frankfurt am Main. With tickets starting at €10, the budget railway connection may prove to be a more affordable direct connection to Frankfurt Airport for travellers coming from German cities on the line. Other German cities on the route include: Hanau, Fulda, Eisenach, Gotha, Weimar, Apolda, Naumburg (Saale), Weissenfels, Riesa and Bad Schandau “In Germany, we are creating an alternative to existing operators,” said CEO of Leo Express,

Peter Köhler. The west-bound route, which departs from Przemyśl at around 1:30 pm, arrives at its destination at Frankfurt Airport the following day at 7:53 am. The east-bound connection departs from Frankfurt Airport at 8:27 am, arriving in Przemyśl at 02:23 am the next

day. Köhler suggests that the new line aims to “connect important European centres and provide access to Ukraine.” Until now, passengers travelling toward Ukraine from Germany could catch trains from Berlin or Munich to Przemyśl, but the new route opens up a direct connection to Frankfurt Airport and which runs through central Germany.
