A summer-solstice countdown is starting at Kroger counters this week, and the offer is hard to ignore: 100,000 free pints of store-brand ice cream.
The giveaway is designed around the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, the summer solstice falls on Sunday, June 21. Kroger says it will kick off the promotion on Friday, June 19, giving customers a chance to pick up either classic pints or new limited-edition flavors.
Kroger says the free ice cream is part of its “All-American Ice Cream Collection. ” and that it’s meant to bring customers “together” for “fun and nostalgia.” Kroger’s Group Vice President of Our Brands. Ann Reed. said the brand is “excited to capture that fun and nostalgia through our new All-American Ice Cream Collection.”.
The plan builds on past solstice-season giveaways. Kroger previously gave away 45,000 pints of free ice cream in 2024 and 92,000 pints in 2025, and Reed said the company is “going bigger than ever” by distributing 100,000 pints.
Customers will have a set of new flavors to choose from as well as classic options. Kroger lists classic picks including Kroger Cookies ’N Cream Ice Cream and Kroger Rocky Road Ice Cream.
The new limited releases include three flavors:
Banana Split Social: Strawberry banana ice cream with pineapple chunks and chocolate swirls.
Seventh Inning Swirl: Caramel popcorn flavored ice cream with praline peanuts and caramel swirls.
Sweet As Cherry Pie: Cherry pie flavored ice cream with tart cherry swirls and pie pieces.
Kroger says these newer flavors are “inspired by the traditions and tastes that define an American summer.”
