A day meant for celebration on Manhattan’s streets turned uncomfortable fast when one Knicks fan was caught emptying a freshly repainted trash can onto the sidewalk during Thursday’s championship parade.

The Knicks held an open-top bus parade across Manhattan on Thursday after finally ending a 53-year wait to win an NBA championship. Along the Canyon of Heroes. where trash cans had been repainted in orange and blue to match the occasion. millions of fans turned up dressed head-to-toe in Knicks colors—trash cans included. In the middle of that scene. a woman wearing a blue Knicks t-shirt and an orange fisherman beanie was filmed walking away with one of the special receptacles. then dumping out a mountain of rubbish onto the street.

In the video that spread across social media. she completely emptied the can. sending debris—including spilled beverages—onto the paving. Passersby watched in disgust as the pavement was dirtied in real time. Fans online were furious as well. calling it a “lack of respect” and criticizing the behavior as both littering and theft.

The reaction wasn’t limited to anger—some commenters tried to compare the moment with other fan cultures. “That is so disgusting!. Contrast that with the Japanese team’s fans cleaning up their entire section after the game. ” one person wrote. adding: “And we wonder why the rest of the world thinks what they think about Americans.” A separate social media reply praised the city’s sanitation workers. saying: “Shoutout to the sanitation that had to take care of this. you the real champion.”.

The New York City Department of Sanitation also condemned the act. calling it “incredibly stupid.” In a statement sent via the New York Post. the department said: “Dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property for your own personal use are both illegal. antisocial behaviors. and not what New Yorkers do. On top of all that, doing both on camera is incredibly stupid.”.

Still, the trash-can incident wasn’t the only chaotic moment that emerged from Thursday’s celebrations. Another clip showed two Knicks fans involved in a vicious exchange before the parade began. sparked after one fan ripped a woman away from a streetlight sign and threw her to the floor following words exchanged between them. The fan who threw her had climbed awkwardly down from the streetlight before pushing the rival out of the way.

The other woman refused to back down. She jumped back up and pulled the other fan’s shorts down. In the middle of the struggle, she appeared to throw a punch while the grip on the street sign stayed firm, as the surrounding crowd shouted in shock.

Later along the route, Knicks player Tyler Kolek stepped off the team’s bus to take in the atmosphere with fans on the ground. The 25-year-old ran along the parade route high-fiving supporters while clutching a Michelob Ultra in one hand.

He then passed a number of stunned officers before two cops stopped him and grabbed him. One officer was seen shaking his head—appearing to say “no”—while another turned him around and pointed for him to leave the area. A man wearing a “New York or Nowhere” t-shirt quickly intervened. explaining to the officers that Kolek was. in fact. a Knicks player.

Kolek was eventually released and sent on his way. He looked far from impressed, appearing to shout something back at the officers as he continued his jog. Afterward, Kolek posted about the moment on X: “I swear I’m on the team bro.”

  1. I didn’t even realize the bins were repainted for the parade. But come on, dumping trash out on the sidewalk is wild. Also “fisherman beanie” is killing me why would you do that

  2. Is it even confirmed she stole it? Like maybe she just emptied it because it was full. But if she took it off the street then yeah that’s messed up. City workers already have enough crap to deal with. Knicks fans always gotta be extra

  3. This is why I hate NYC crowds. People get so hype they do stupid stuff and then it’s on the internet forever. They paint trash cans like it’s art and then one person turns it into a mess. I’m not even a Knicks person but she should be fined and also maybe banned from parades forever. Home training?? idk I just feel bad for the sanitation people cleaning it up
