Nick Foligno surprises brother Marcus with King Clancy Trophy

Marcus and his family were visiting the Masonic Cancer Center in Minneapolis for a supposed tour. It was a bit of a rouse, so that Nick – who won the King Clancy himself in 2017 – could present the trophy. “I wanted to be here and be a part of this,” Nick said. “Just thrilled for Marcus and it kind of all came together. He’s expecting to go on a hospital tour and we are going to show (the trophy) to him after, and I

think he’s going to be really excited about it.” Marcus said he was surprised to see his brother there and had “no idea” he had won the trophy. “(My wife) played it off pretty cool, so it made me think that there was nothing going on today.” Dr. Christopher Pennell of the Masonic Cancer Center said Marcus was a deserving recipient. “When I first met Marcus, it was in 2018,” Dr. Pennell said. “He and about half a dozen of his Minnesota Wild colleagues came

to the Masonic Children’s hospital at the cancer ward. And Marcus started to talk to me about research. I didn’t know his mother (Janis) had passed away from breast cancer.

  1. I’m confused… it says hospital tour but it was a rouse? Either way that’s really sweet Nick did that. Cancer centers already do enough, but wow.

  2. So Marcus is surprised he won it but his wife played it off, meaning she knew all along right? Also King Clancy trophy sounds like a made up thing from the NHL but okay. Cancer research talk in 2018? That part got lost for me.

  3. Honestly I like the whole sibling surprise angle, but I don’t get why the article made it a secret tour first. If he’s expecting a tour anyway, why not just show him the trophy at the start? Also, “deserving recipient” doesn’t mean much to me without numbers, like did he cure something or what? Still, super nice gesture at least.
