KILLAVULLEN Mary Linehan RIP The
members of Killavullen Community Council were heartbroken to hear of the passing of Mary Linehan. Mary was one of life’s true gems, always willing to lend a hand when there was an event or fundraiser to be organised. Her kindness, generosity and quiet support meant so much to our community, and her presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We extend our deepest sympathies to Denis, Gavin, Mark, daughters-in-law Cait and Denise, her treasured grandchildren, her siblings, and
the wider O’Mahony and Linehan families at this very sad time. May Mary’s gentle soul rest in peace. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís — the place will feel emptier without her. Rest in Peace, Mary. Leaving Cert and Junior Cert Exams start Wishing the very best of luck to all the young people of our Parish who are beginning their state
exams on June 4th. We know this can be a challenging and stressful time, but take heart—you have already shown great strength and determination in your journey so far. Remember to do your best, take it one step at a time, and know that your value is not defined by a grade or a result. These exams do not measure your kindness, your compassion, your sense of community, or the light you bring to those around you. To Our Leaving Cert Students: As you begin
your exams and take your next steps beyond school, know that your community is thinking of you and wishing you every success on the path ahead—wherever it may lead. Congratulations on completing this important chapter of your life. Remember: Make your life the best it can be. Each day is a blank page, and while not every word will be yours to choose, you hold the pen. Write your story with courage, kindness, and heart. Trust in the guidance of a Greater Hand, and there
will always be hope in your tomorrows. Follow your dreams. Work hard. Be kind. Goodness will reward, and smiles will find their way back to you. Secondary Students are on their holidays We wish all second level students a safe and happy summer holiday from school. When you are out and about on the roads please be safe, and be seen. Mary Lenihan: an appreciation – Mary Lenihan died last week and will be a huge loss to the GAA and wider community in Killavullen. Our loss pales into insignificance compared to her husband Denis, and sons, Gavin, Mark and the late
Shane, brothers, sisters, grandchildren and wider family. Mary was great ambassador for Killavullen and Killavullen GAA, always promoting us well, always conjouling people to buy a lotto ticket or other fundraiser(s). Mary had a very pleasant personality, and the convenience that she moved between people, meant, rarely was Mary refused when she asked you to partake. She was also brilliant as a home help with the HSE and touched many people in the community with her empathy and compassion. She will be missed hugely. Our
sincere sympathies to Mary’s family. Golf Classic likely to sell out – Good interest in been expressed in our annual Golf Classic, which is creeping up steadily upon us. Killavullen GAA Golf Classic for 2026 will be on in Doneraile Golf Club, on 5th and 6th June. As of the week ending 18th May, and fully 2 weeks out from the classic, we have only 3 of the available golf team slots to fill. There are also competitions, for the longest drive for men and
women, and nearest the pin on the 8th hole, plus a raffle on the days; it will make for a very enjoyable occasion. If you would like to play or advertise we would be delighted to have you involved. You can revert to John O Donovan on 086-3934232 or any club official or simply reserve a slot for your team to Communications.killavullen.cork@gaa.ie Energetic people from Killavullen Congratulations to Eoin Birchill and Cian Lankford, from this parish, who recently completed the Italian divide–which went from Bari
to Bologna, 1400km with 25000 meters of elevation gain. That is one hell of a cycle, and a tad more exhausting, than simply cycling to the shop for a pint of milk. Congratulations also to Sean Sheedy and Brian Mellerick, who completed the Ring of Beara in blissful conditions last Saturday. Though warm, the two lads were delighted that the event went ahead in glorious weather in 2026, as the last two years saw them partake in the same event, in driving rain. Padraig Lankford,
same family and Uncle to Cian, showed that there was no lack of stamina in the breeding when he spent Saturday, walking the byroads and paths in County Clare on Saturday, and posted an impressive time of just over 6 hours for the marathon trip. Let us celebrate the happy events in life, for the determination of these hardy souls is most certainly one.
