A battle over a fire from the early 2010s has flared back up on TikTok—this time with Kat Von D at the center of fresh accusations and a furious counterargument delivered on camera.
The tattoo artist and reality-TV personality. 44. has been accused on social media of causing fire damage to a castle-style property she rented in the Hollywood Hills. In the videos driving the renewed controversy. content creator Teva—whose mother reportedly owned the home and whose renovation work has been documented online—alleged that Von D’s actions led to a destructive house fire during Von D’s residence.
Teva said his family later reached a settlement with Von D. which he claimed included a nondisclosure agreement that kept his mother from speaking out. “I want to be abundantly clear about something: My mom passed due to cancer. ” Teva said in a June 11 video that has drawn 8 million views. He added: “Our family believes that the stress of the fires and the restoration process and the lawsuit is truly what brought it back with such vengeance.”.
Von D responded the next day with her own video pushback. insisting she did not cause the fire and arguing against Teva’s portrayal of events. “This week. I’ve been accused of burning down a house and contributing to the death of a woman with cancer. ” Von D said in the June 12 video. She said she wanted to be respectful but added that the allegations were “very hard not to be disheartened by this man’s accusations.”.
The dispute reaches into prior legal filings that predate the TikTok fight. Von D was sued by State Farm Insurance in May 2012 after the insurer claimed that the “LA Ink” star caused nearly $1 million in damages to the Los Angeles property by leaving several lit candles unattended. which allegedly resulted in the house fire. according to TMZ and E!. News. The lawsuit was reportedly dropped in 2013 after State Farm reached a settlement with Von D, per People magazine. The terms of that settlement were not disclosed.
Teva’s account in his June 11 posts described the home and what he says investigators later found. He said he met Von D during her time at his mother’s castle property and recalled seeing “bizarre” decor. “There were candles everywhere,” Teva said. “Candles of all sizes – big, small, wide, every single corner, every mantle, down the steps, along the walls – really, everywhere.”.
After the fire. Teva said arson investigators concluded that the blaze stemmed from a “candle fire.” He described what he said investigators documented: “There were holes throughout the hardwood floors. smoke damage in the entire home. ” and he noted that the only reason the structure “stood was because it’s made from stone.”.
Von D’s rebuttal points in a different direction. In her June 12 response video. she alleged the fire was caused by an “electrical fire” in the home’s basement. which she said was the result of “faulty wires.” She also claimed she had previously raised the electrical issue with Teva’s mother. and that the woman allegedly chose to send her husband for help rather than hire an electrician. Von D said she was traveling on a book tour when the fire occurred.
Von D also addressed the allegation that she was part of a nondisclosure agreement. She said she didn’t require Teva’s mother to sign an NDA tied to the incident.
“I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose a mother that you’re so close with, but at the same time, I didn’t set the house on fire,” Von D said. “This was a tragedy and it was out of both of our controls, and I would never wish that on anybody.”
She said the fire carried a personal toll that went beyond the property dispute. Von D alleged that her kitten, Valentine, was killed in the fire. She described the aftermath in blunt terms: “No one came out of this situation unscathed. ” and said she understood his mother’s loss while describing her own. “I am very fully aware that she lost her home; I lost the home that I lived in. The fire took everything from me. I literally had nothing. I lost all my clothes, my computers, my hard drives, all my photos. There’s a massive gap [of] my life that just went up in flames.”.
Teva, however, has continued to press his version of events. After Von D posted her response video, he doubled down in additional TikTok posts, saying he has extensive documentation that supports his claim that Von D was at fault.
In a June 12 video, Teva said he called his father to confirm he was not missing anything. “We have seven documents from fire investigators determining it was a fire caused by candles,” he wrote. He added that the material includes “court records” and other “fire investigators documents. ” describing his decision to share the story as an effort “to release trauma.”.
