Kat Timpf Returns to Gutfeld After Sudden Father Death

Kat Timpf shared a devastating update on Instagram just days after her father died “very unexpectedly,” describing it as “the hardest time of my life.” She says she’ll return to work and hopes a distraction on “Gutfeld!” will help her get through the grief.

Just days after her father passed away “very unexpectedly,” Kat Timpf walked back toward work—with a message that sounded less like a schedule update and more like a confession.

In her most recent Instagram post, the TV personality told her followers she’s coming back to “Gutfeld!” and to work “today.” “I’m letting you guys know that I’m coming back today to work,” she said. “This has been the hardest time of my life. It’s not close. It’s horrible.”

She didn’t soften the truth of what grief has felt like in the last couple of weeks. Timpf admitted she’s been angry and sad as she processed the loss. “My dad didn’t deserve this,” she said. “His grandson didn’t deserve this. I’m very upset.”

And then she described the quiet, repeating impulse that has taken over her time off. “I also, in my time off, pretty much only think about picking up the phone and calling him,” she added. “And I’m not sure that’s the most helpful for me right now.”

Still, she said she’s ready to return—partly because she needs somewhere to put her mind besides the moment she’s trying to understand. “So I’m gonna come back,” Timpf said. “I’m gonna see if, you know, the distraction helps. Maybe it helps.”

Her father died at the age of 69. Timpf previously said he was “seemingly strong” and “healthy” in the time leading up to his unexpected death. In this new update, she returned to that disbelief. “But losing my dad suddenly, completely suddenly, out of nowhere, he’s healthy, active, regularly going to the doctor. It’s just incomprehensible,” she said. “I mean, it’s… I’m probably never gonna get over it, honestly.”.

She also spoke about the kind of life her father helped build. “You know, also, my dad sacrificed a lot for all of his kids,” Timpf said. “I’m only where I am because of my dad. He believed in me when no one else could or would. And I have no choice but to spend the rest of my life trying to make him proud. Both in my career and as a mother. So that’s what I’m gonna try really hard to do.”.

Before turning back to work, she thanked the people who reached out after her father’s passing. “And then I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has taken the time to be kind to me throughout this. ” she said. “This is not my first rodeo losing a parent. Sadly, I have none left. Just 37 years old.”.

Timpf also addressed how grief changes conversation with others. “It’s been a little over a year for me. Really hard,” she said. She added that asking how she’s doing can make people uncomfortable when she answers honestly. “And that may make people uncomfortable when I ask how I’m doing, and I say, ‘Bad.’”.

The post ended with the same idea that guided her decision to return: she wants the distraction to help. even if she can’t imagine the pain disappearing. “So I’m gonna come back. ” she repeated. saying again she hopes the distraction helps as she tries to move forward with her father’s loss “as a part of me.”.
