Judd Trump woke up to something he says he never posted.

On Sunday. the world No 1 snooker player’s Instagram story carried an explicit video showing a male holding his appendage while in a hotel room. It was seen by his 325,000 followers before the post was taken down. Even after deletion, screenshots and recordings of the video continued to move across social media.

Trump then moved quickly on Monday morning. saying he had wrestled back control of the account and that it had been compromised. “Just a quick note to let everyone know that my Instagram account was hacked,” the 36-year-old wrote on Instagram. “Any images or content posted recently were not posted by me and do not represent me in any way.”.

He added: “Please disregard them while I work to regain control of the account. Thank you for your understanding.”

The incident lands amid a turbulent personal timeline. Trump was previously in a relationship with figure skater Maisy Ma, with the pair believed to have split earlier this year after two years of navigating long-distance.

Trump relocated to Dubai from the UK in January 2024, but he also spent time in Hong Kong with Ma during their relationship. Speaking at the start of the year, Trump said the move was down to “better weather and snooker facilities” in the UAE.

He later said he had to leave Dubai when the conflict between the United States of America and Iran began in late February. “I had to leave [Dubai],” Trump told The Sun. “So we went to Bangkok. Yeah, it’s a bit up in the air at the moment really. I don’t really think I can go back at the moment, just in case I get stuck there.”.

Trump said he was “just kind of looking for somewhere else to live at the moment. ” describing Bangkok as a base where he could keep practicing. He said his brother was stuck in Dubai for a little bit but “hopefully” managed to get out. and he added that the uncertainty left him “just living in a hotel for the last few weeks really.”.

At the time, Trump said every day was different and his approach was to “play it day-by-day,” dedicating himself to practice and trying to “take the positives” away from the table.

More recently, he has posted signs that he returned to the UAE. A caption on Instagram showed him sitting on a sports car in Dubai with the words “back home in Dubai.” A separate post on Instagram as recently as two days ago also suggested he was back in the UAE.

In April, Trump suffered a major shock on the sport’s biggest stage. He was knocked out of the World Championships by Hossein Vafaei in a final-frame decider, ending a run that had put the world No 1 under pressure.

For now, the focus has shifted from the cue to the phone—after a video posted from a hotel room appeared on his account, then vanished, leaving followers to digest what Trump insists was never under his control.
