Jenna Bush Hager Recalls Mom Googling Exes

On June 10, Jenna Bush Hager revealed that her mom, Laura Bush, once spent time searching for information about her ex-boyfriends online—an admission that sparked a frank conversation about stalking exes in the digital age on Jenna & Sheinelle.

When Jenna Bush Hager came home as a kid, she wasn’t expecting to catch a First Lady doing something very human.

On the June 10 episode of Jenna & Sheinelle, the Today co-host looked back on the early days of online searching and admitted that her mother, Laura Bush, was “googling her ex-boyfriends.”

“Many, many years ago, when it first became a thing, I came home and I was staying with my parents and my mom was googling her ex-boyfriends,” Jenna recalled. Then she leaned into the moment itself: “What are you doing, Mom?” Jenna said she asked. “She’s like, ‘Do you know that you can Google?!’”

The revelation didn’t stop with the discovery. Jenna added, “And then, like, sadly, one had passed.”

That story landed in the middle of a broader conversation about online behavior, and it opened the door for more honesty from the hosts. Both Jenna and Sheinelle Jones admitted that they, too, have looked up exes online.

Jenna framed her own habit with experience. “She’s like,” she said of her mother’s reaction, then moved into her point about being a “seasoned sleuth.” Jones, meanwhile, said she has a particular “friend” she can call if she needs information pulled from Google or social media.

The conversation also held a personal weight for everyone in the room. Jenna and Sheinelle weren’t speaking abstractly—they were describing choices and consequences in the same candid way people admit anything uncomfortable.

Jenna has leaned into that legacy in her interviews. Earlier this year, she spoke with all four living former presidents in a special episode—Bill Clinton (1993-2001), Barack Obama (2009-2017), Joe Biden (2021-2025), and George W. Bush.

During her conversation with her father, George W. Bush delivered a message aimed at more than nostalgia. “My message is consider yourself fortunate to be a part of a great nation. ” he told Jenna. speaking directly to Americans. “Study our history so you have a better sense of what the future will be like. and be a citizen not a spectator. And by that I mean participate in the process but also love a neighbor like you’d like to be loved yourself.”.
