JD Vance jokes Diddy isn’t Christian after conviction

When Vice President JD Vance stepped into the Richard Nixon Presidential Library on June 25 to promote his new memoir, the conversation quickly drifted to a pop-culture reference tied to the embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Vance’s book, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” is set to launch on June 16. Speaking during his appearance on June 25, he was asked about the inspiration for a chapter named after the Notorious B.I.G.’s posthumous single featuring Combs, “Mo Money Mo Problems.”

“I’m a millennial. so I believe that’s the wisdom of the great Christian theologian P Diddy. who as we found out in the last couple of years is very much not a Christian or a theologian. ” Vance joked. “I’m going to get in trouble for all kinds of things. That will be one of them. That will be in an attack ad at some point in the future.”.

A representative for Combs declined to comment.

Combs. who has repeatedly talked publicly about his faith. brought a Bible to the federal courthouse during his two-month criminal trial in New York City last year. That trial ended with a federal conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs has been incarcerated since his September 2024 arrest and is serving a 50-month prison sentence.

His legal team is seeking to overturn the conviction.

Before sentencing in October. Combs sent a letter to the judge expressing contrition for his violence toward his former partners who testified against him. In the letter, Combs wrote: “I can’t change the past, but I can change the future. I know that God put me here to transform me. I’m committed to the journey of remaining a drug free, non-violent, and peaceful person.”.

President Donald Trump has previously said Combs reached out to his administration, with the Bad Boy Records founder seeking a pardon. Trump has indicated he will not grant a pardon.

Combs has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct. Even as his criminal case continues to be challenged, he is still facing upwards of 70 civil lawsuits across the country.

Combs is scheduled to be released from New Jersey’s FCI Fort Dix in February 2028.

The episode puts Vance’s faith-focused memoir on a collision course with a public figure who has also framed his own story around God—yet is now serving time after a federal conviction. In Vance’s retelling. the reference to Combs lands not as homage. but as a pointed joke about who qualifies. in his view. to speak in Christian terms after the legal outcomes in recent years.

  1. I’m confused… the article says he’s promoting his faith book but then he’s making fun of someone else’s religion. Like who does that at a library? Also Diddy brought a Bible to court, so doesn’t that mean something?

  2. “Mo Money Mo Problems” chapter title and he says P Diddy isn’t a theologian or Christian like?? Isn’t that just the point of a joke. But also if he’s in prison for that stuff then yeah it’s kinda messed up to even bring it up. They’re all hypocrites anyway, politics is dumb.

  3. This just proves nobody cares about real Christianity, they just use it as PR. He’s not supposed to joke about conviction stuff like that, even if Diddy’s lawyer is trying to overturn. I thought the Bible thing was like he was innocent though?? Like if he said he was contrite in a letter that means it’s basically over, right? Idk.
