Jay-Z performs in hometown of New York to celebrate 30 years in music
Jay-Z is performing three highly anticipated hometown shows in New York to celebrate 30 years in music as fans pack Yankee Stadium.
Jay-Z has added more shows to his 30th anniversary concert series with additional dates in London and Los Angeles.
The Grammy-winning rapper will now be performing a second show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London as a part of his “Jay-Z 30” concert series. He will hit the U.K. stage on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5. He also added another show to his Los Angeles stop, performing a total of two shows at SoFi Stadium on Oct. 23 and 24.
Jay-Z is also set to take the stage at Stade de France stadium in Paris on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The string of shows commemorates the 30th anniversary of his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” released June 25, 1996. He’s also celebrating the 25th anniversary of his sixth studio album “Blueprint,” released Sept. 11, 2001.
Jay-Z’s London performance marks his first solo headline show in the U.K. in over a decade. Most notably, the show falls on Beyoncé’s 45th birthday, which is also the anniversary date of Beyoncé’s sophomore album “B’Day,” released Sept. 4, 2006, sparking speculation that his Grammy-winning wife may attend.
The announcement comes weeks after the legendary rapper delivered three massive anniversary concerts at Yankee Stadium in his hometown of New York City. He celebrated the 30th anniversary of “Reasonable Doubt” on July 10. Soon after, on July 11, he commemorated his album “The Blueprint.” Next, Sunday night’s “Extra Innings” concert combined both shows due to high demand.
The shows were filled with high-profile guests and surprises including Rihanna, Beyoncé, Young Jeezy, Usher, Teyana Taylor, Slick Rick, Eminem, Pharrell Williams, his daughter Blue Ivy Carter, Alicia Keys, rapper Nas, Jaz-O and more.
Prior to those shows, Jay-Z put on a standout performance in Philadelphia at the Roots Picnic on May 30. The concert marked Jay-Z’s first solo headlining performance in years as well as the 30th anniversary of the album. In 2001, The Roots group famously served as Jay-Z’s backing band for his “MTV Unplugged” special and for his “Reasonable Doubt” anniversary concert at Radio City Music Hall in 2006.
