Wisconsin to see heat, storms July 25 and 26, with hot week to come
Highs in the 90s July 25–27, peak heat Sunday to Monday; heat index may reach 100. Storms and variable rain may start Saturday night.
More than 100,000 people are without power throughout Wisconsin, including 40,000 in Milwaukee County alone, as severe storms and at least one confirmed tornado blew through large portions of the state Monday, July 27.
As of about 3:35 p.m., 98,528 utility customers did not have power, according to We Energies’ real-time online outage map. The majority of those customers, around 63,000 of them, are based in Milwaukee and Outagamie counties.
Although the storms caused widespread outages a portion of them were not weather-related.
Monday morning, around 18,000 customers in Milwaukee area lost power due to a malfunctioning piece of equipment at one of the company’s substations, Director of Media Relations for WEC Energy Group Brendan Conway told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He said crew members are working on two outages within the station and hope to restore power in the affected areas by 6:30 p.m.
Apart from We Energies outages, more than 6,400 Alliant and Wisconsin Public Service customers combined in the state were without power.
