Janice Dean didn’t announce the change with a studio cue or a host’s smile. She posted it herself, in a video on X, writing in the caption that “Goodbyes are hard,” and signaling her absence from “Fox & Friends.”

For more than 22 years. Dean has been a familiar presence on the morning show. but her fight with multiple sclerosis has reached a point where she can no longer keep up with the demands of live broadcasting. In her video. she described how difficult it has become to handle the early mornings. the long hours on her feet. and the stress of going on air.

“Getting up at 2:30 in the morning and performing anything is hard, but especially for someone who has multiple sclerosis,” Dean said. “For those living with MS, the war is inside of us.”

She said she was diagnosed “early” and managed her symptoms for over two decades through different therapies. Still, she added that her “symptoms have progressed,” and that the shift was triggered by “a lack of sleep and stress.”

Dean said she was increasingly feeling the effects of her limitations, and that she made the decision to leave her role at the recommendation of her doctors.

After sharing the news. Dean looked back over what she’s meant to viewers and what the job has meant to her—without pretending it was easy to let go. “There’s so many things I’ll miss. ” she said. naming “the friends I’ve met. ” “the places I’ve visited. ” and “the storms I’ve covered. ” along with “the millions of yours who have invited me into their homes every morning.”.

She then turned to what she called the hardest part of stepping away: accepting the end of one chapter, even when it was the right choice for her health. Dean thanked her loved ones for getting her “through these really tough moments,” and ended with emotion as she framed the goodbye as temporary.

“So maybe I’ll call this my mostly sunny goodbye, because for every goodbye, there’s always the next hello,” she said. “God bless you all, and thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
