Newcastle reject second Tottenham bid for Tonali

Newcastle reject – Newcastle have turned away a second approach from Tottenham for Sandro Tonali, keeping their asking price closer to £100m after Spurs’ follow-up failed to improve on an initial £75m offer.

Newcastle moved quickly to close the door on Tottenham’s second attempt to sign Sandro Tonali, even after the north London club asked the Magpies to reconsider an earlier £75m bid.

Tottenham did not lift their original offer as they returned with a second approach for the midfielder. Newcastle’s response was swift: they knocked it back.

Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear Tonali is his No.1 target this summer, and the feeling inside the talks is that the player is open to a move to the capital. Tonali has spent three seasons on Tyneside, and he wants the chance to explore his options.

But Newcastle’s stance has remained firm. Their asking price is closer to £100m, and so far Tottenham—or any other potential suitor—has not put forward a package Newcastle would consider acceptable.

Manchester United have had long-term interest in Tonali, yet they are now said to be looking elsewhere. Manchester City and Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, waiting to see whether the market finds a route to Newcastle’s price.

Tonali’s contract runs for four years, and he is already among Newcastle’s highest earners, a combination that keeps any deal expensive and raises the stakes for anyone trying to lure him away from St James’ Park.

The picture is set for the summer to be a test of timing and money: Tottenham want Tonali, Tonali is open to leaving, but Newcastle are demanding a figure closer to £100m—figures that have not yet landed on the table in a way the club will accept.

  1. Wait they rejected a second offer but the first was like 75m? Sounds like Newcastle wants to be difficult for no reason. If he wants to leave, shouldn’t they just sell?

  2. De Zerbi “No.1 target” lol okay but Tonali spending 3 seasons there doesn’t mean he’ll suddenly pick them over Tottenham. Also man City and Arsenal “monitoring” means nothing until someone actually writes the check… unless they’re waiting for Newcastle to drop the price like 20 minutes before the window ends.

  3. £100m “closer to” 100m… so like 110? 95? English clubs always talk in vibes. And why is Man United “looking elsewhere” when they still supposedly want him? Feels like all this is just PR and agents trying to pump the market. If Tottenham offered 75m and Newcastle said no, then they should’ve just offered the full amount from the jump, but who knows.
