National Cheese Pizza Day is upon us, which means pizza lovers can get a slice at a discount this weekend.
Saturday, Sept. 5, marks National Cheese Pizza Day, and brands are bringing out the deals to celebrate the iconic dish. The national holiday also coincides with Labor Day weekend. In 2026, Labor Day will fall on Monday, Sept. 7, so you can celebrate and enjoy the long weekend with a pie.
The dish, though commonly associated with Italian cuisine, may have originated in ancient Greece, according to the National Day Calendar. Thousands of years ago, ancient Greeks topped bread with oil and cheese, and many believe this is how pizza got its start. Then the Romans created pizza, topped with cheese and honey, and flavored it with bay leaves.
This dish has been around for generations and can be found anywhere in the country. Pizza has even sparked nationwide debates about which city has the best pie, with notable contenders being Chicago-style pizza and thin-crust New York pizza.
However, National Cheese Pizza Day takes it back to the basics and celebrates a culinary masterpiece. Here’s where you can snag deals and discounts to make your cheesy celebration cost less.
