Air raid sirens blared across parts of Israel after missiles were launched from Iran toward Israeli territory, the military said Sunday.
The Israel Defense Forces said it identified incoming missiles and activated defensive systems to intercept the threat. Authorities did not immediately provide details on damage or casualties, but they warned residents in affected areas to follow safety instructions as interceptions took place.
In a report, Al Jazeera said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, stated it launched ballistic missiles at Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel.
The missile launches came hours after Israel struck what it described as militant infrastructure in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Those strikes were in retaliation for earlier rocket fire into northern Israel, Israeli officials said. The Prime Minister’s Office said the strikes targeted a command center in the Dahieh district.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was “fighting terrorism on all fronts,” pointing to ongoing operations in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and along the northern border with Lebanon. He said Israeli forces would continue to respond to any attacks, including those by Hezbollah.
Iranian officials responded quickly to the Beirut strike. Ebrahim Rezaei. spokesman for Iran’s parliament’s national security commission. said Tehran would deliver a “decisive and painful response. ” urging observers to “look at the sky” over Israel. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Iran’s parliament speaker. echoed the threat. accusing Israel of violating ceasefire arrangements in Lebanon and claiming that continued actions with U.S. support could make American and Israeli assets in the region “legitimate targets.”.
The chain of accusations already set the terms of this week’s escalation: Israeli authorities have argued Hezbollah’s continued rocket fire violates a ceasefire that took effect in April and justifies retaliatory strikes. Axios reports that officials familiar with the situation said Israel had notified the U.S. government ahead of the Beirut strike.
For Israeli residents. the immediate reality was stark and urgent—sirens. intercepts. and instructions to stay in the right places while missiles closed distance from another direction. Behind the warnings and threats. the political logic is clear enough to read in the timing alone: a strike in Beirut followed by missiles from Iran. each side insisting the next move is simply a response to the last one.

So like… did they actually hit anything or was it just “approached” again? Either way, sirens are terrifying.
Read this headline like 5 times and I’m still confused. Iran launched missiles at Israel because Israel hit some command center in Beirut, right? But aren’t these ceasefire “arrangements” supposed to prevent stuff like this??
They always say “intercepted” but somehow people still freak out and I don’t get it. Like if intercept defenses worked, why are residents getting told to follow safety instructions? Sounds like PR to me.
Beirut strike then missiles from Iran… everybody calling it retaliation but it’s literally just escalation in a loop. Also wasn’t this supposed to be contained after “ceasefire” in April? And what does Hezbollah have to do with Ramat David like can someone explain what’s the actual target here besides “terrorism on all fronts” 🙄
