Sugar Dust Baking doubles winners at Owen Sound chamber awards

“I also think it reflects on the team that we have here. They are absolutely incredible.” Walpole said they have “morphed” the business since it first opened. They moved to the current location in October 2021 and then added to their kitchen space in the back in October 2024. This spring, at the end of March, they expanded into the space next door with a seating area, offering lunches and a place for customers a place to sit and enjoy their food. They have also

added an area for cupcake and cake workshops, where they have even held a birthday party. Robinson said she doesn’t know if more expansion is in the future, but never say never. She said she loves having the seating option, and she loves offering more savoury items and thinks that will be expanded a bit. Some equipment updates like a new dishwasher – they still wash dishes by hand – would be nice too. “As an entrepreneur your brain is always going,” she said. “You

think, what could it be next. My mom is slowly retiring though and when she retires it will be mine, and I will have to decide what I want to take on as an individual.”

  1. So they moved in 2021 then again in 2024… sounds like they’re always remodeling. Not mad at it. Also why are they still washing dishes by hand? That part seems crazy.

  2. Wait does the award mean they’re like officially the best bakery in all of Ontario or was it just local? I feel like that “never say never” quote is code for they’re definitely expanding again lol. Seating area for lunches is a smart idea though.

  3. I don’t get why there’s a chamber awards thing for cupcakes but ok. Still, doubling winners usually means they must’ve gotten some big money prize or something, right? The dishwasher mention threw me off too because if they’re that busy shouldn’t they already have a machine? Anyway hope mom retiring goes smooth and the business doesn’t get sold to someone else.
