iPhone 18 Pro “leak” turns out third-party parts

A set of images widely shared as an iPhone 18 Pro chassis leak appears to show aftermarket rear case replacements instead—sparking fresh doubts about whether the latest “leak” is genuine or manipulated for attention.
A stream of alleged iPhone 18 Pro chassis images landed online with a familiar promise: colors, frames, and enough detail to feel real. But the closer the pictures were examined, the faster the confidence drained.
The posts—shared by LusiRoy8—showed rear panels in blue, dark cherry, and black. The images also appeared to match multiple iPhone 18 Pro shades. with one Dark Cherry frame. two black ones. and three of the light blue version. When two or three units were shown side by side, there was no distinguishable difference between them.
After further inspection and discussion with sources close to AppleInsider, the reality looks different. The photos appear to be aftermarket rear case replacements that users can order for iPhone 17 Pro. not parts from an iPhone 18 Pro at all. The iPhone 17 Pro rear casing was shown in the rumored iPhone 18 Pro colors—another sign that the leak may be more accessory shopping than smartphone history.
Even the smallest details raised eyebrows. The black and light blue examples included a small plastic bag that appears to contain a SIM-card tray. That doesn’t confirm the conclusion on its own. but it fits the pattern of parts being pulled from third-party packaging rather than sourced from a manufacturer’s testing pipeline.
The uncertainty didn’t end with the possibility that these were third-party accessories. The images could have been altered as well. There are telltale signs that might suggest AI manipulation—differences in screw holes. SIM-card tray sizes. and other aspects—though some of those inconsistencies can also be explained by what is known about production validation test materials.
The broader frustration is hard to ignore: even when images circulate as “leaks. ” it’s becoming harder to tell what’s real. and what’s been engineered to look convincing. Apple’s continued push for secrecy could be feeding desperation among those trying to break through with something new. Or, the more cynical possibility is that the images were fabricated for clout.
The skepticism gets sharper when you look at the leaker’s recent timeline. The same account has posted what it claims are images of previously unreleased test products and possible leaks. but many of the items appear to be AI generated or taken from other sources. The account’s recent Apple Vision Pro leak in black was shared before by various sources. and it was clearly at the testing stage rather than a real “second-generation” product.
In that Vision Pro batch, even features like the battery pack showed hallmarks of AI manipulation.
On June 4, the story was updated. The update. at 3:37 p.m. reflected new information suggesting the leaked rear casing was likely sourced from third-party accessory makers—and possibly manipulated as well. The additional examination led the report to change again. and the leaker is set to be watched more closely going forward for potential deception.
For now, what was presented as an iPhone 18 Pro chassis leak has become a warning flare: in a world of image editing and AI assistance, the hardest part isn’t getting pictures—it’s proving they belong to the device they’re said to represent.

So it’s fake… cool, love wasting my time on “leaks” 🙄
Wait so they’re saying it’s just iPhone 17 Pro cases? That’s kinda wild because the color combos sounded legit. If Apple doesn’t even make the chassis pics, how are people even sure what’s coming?
I don’t get why everyone acts shocked. People probably used an AI filter and called it “third party.” Like if there’s a SIM tray bag in the pic then that automatically means it’s not a real test phone? Seems like a reach. Also screw holes could just be different batches right?
This is why I don’t trust leaks anymore. Next thing you know it’s not iPhone 18 Pro, it’s just somebody selling aftermarket rear cases in the right colors. Half the internet saw “chassis leak” and ran with it like it was confirmed by Apple or something. I’m still gonna screenshot it though because it looks close enough to me.
