Instagram lets each carousel slide get its own caption

unique captions – Instagram is rolling out a new feature that lets users add separate captions to each slide in a carousel. Previously, every image in the set shared the same caption, limiting how clearly people could tell a multi-image story.
A carousel always promised more than one photo—but for many users, it came with a frustrating limit: every slide had to share the same caption. Instagram’s latest update changes that.
The platform now lets people add a unique caption to each carousel slide. Instead of forcing a single line of text to describe everything, users can toggle the option through the caption area, and then choose whether to put in the effort to write different captions for different moments.
Instagram says the feature is rolling out now, and it could take about a week to reach every user. The timing matters. because it follows another carousel upgrade from a couple of years ago. when Instagram doubled the number of photos allowed in a carousel—from 10 to 20. With up to 20 images and the ability to pair them with 20 different captions. creators have more room to build a clearer. more intentional multi-image narrative.
Instagram has also been making other changes across the app. The in-app camera now supports Ultra HDR and Night Sight on Android devices. The platform also added tools that let users personalize the algorithm and reorder posts on the grid.
For now, the new caption option is the headline shift—small on the surface, but meaningful for anyone who has ever felt boxed in by a single caption trying to cover a whole sequence of images.

So now Instagram captions are like… chapters? lol
I swear IG keeps updating stuff nobody asked for. Like will this help with the algorithm being weird or is it just more editing work? I don’t got time to caption every slide.
Wait so does this mean you can hide captions per slide or something? I saw somewhere that captions can affect reach, so having 20 different captions sounds like it’ll mess with people who post once a week. Also I thought carousels already had different texts when you tapped them?
Honestly I just use one caption for everything because I’m lazy. But if they’re letting each photo have its own caption then I guess you can make it more obvious what’s happening in the story. Not sure why they couldn’t just let you type in the first slide and it automatically changes?? Anyway Ultra HDR and Night Sight on Android is cool I guess.
