Where to – “Dateline” returns with “Secrets Unmasked,” the 27th episode of season 34, airing Friday, June 19 at 9 p.m. Special coverage includes cases such as Regina Hicks’ death and the Brian Thompson story, and viewers can stream it with a free trial on DIRECTV or Peac

Friday night at 9 p.m., “Dateline” is set to air “Secrets Unmasked,” the 27th episode of season 34—and this time, the streaming options matter as much as the cases themselves.

The episode is scheduled for Friday, June 19 at 9 p.m. (9/8c). For viewers who want to watch without committing right away, there are a couple of clear pathways: DIRECTV offers a 5-day free trial, and Peacock is available for $8/month. Peacock does not list a free trial.

The wrinkle is Fubo. The service is currently in a protracted contract dispute with NBC, and it may not be a valid option for viewers trying to watch the episode when it airs.

For people who follow “Dateline” through multiple case specials, “Secrets Unmasked” sits alongside a range of recent coverage. The program is taking a look at the death of Regina Hicks. a 25-year-old woman who was discovered at the bottom of a pond. The same special lineup also points to other widely discussed “Dateline” stories and related programming. including the Kouri Richins special. the Lori Vallow Daybell jailhouse interview. the death of Ashley Schwalm. and “The Terrible Night on King Road.”.

After it airs, the timing is built into the viewing schedule. New episodes are available the next day on the Peacock app, while the live broadcast runs on NBC Fridays at 9/8c. The show also airs special extra episodes on select Sundays.

Part of what makes “Dateline” feel like a constant presence in true-crime viewing is how it’s both long-running and still heavily anchored by familiar faces. The program has been on the air since 1992 and is currently presented by Lester Holt. with correspondents including Hoda Kotb and Keith Morrison. “Dateline” has also recently aired coverage such as “Sean Combs on Trial. ” alongside an episode about Bryan Kohberger from the Friday before.

For viewers mapping out their plan right now, the options come down to cost and availability. DIRECTV lists a 5-day free trial at $75/month, but it is marked “Yes” for a free trial. Peacock is $8/month and is marked “No” for a free trial. The uncertainty around Fubo is the only part that could derail a straightforward watch—especially for anyone counting on it to be working when the Friday night episode begins.

The show’s catalogue remains accessible as well. “Secrets Unmasked” and previous episodes—including other major installments such as “The Mystery of Sarah Hartsfield. ” “The Terrible Night on King Road. ” “The Menendez Brothers: Chance At Freedom. ” and “The Night of the Nor’easter”—can be followed through Peacock.

And with the broadcast set for June 19 at 9 p.m., the clock starts ticking: this is the one night each week when NBC brings the newest episode first—before Peacock and streaming catch up the next day.

  1. I don’t get why Fubo is acting up like that. If it’s NBC at 9 it should be on everything, right? Contract dispute sounds like the show is mad at the internet.

  2. Regina Hicks at the bottom of a pond… that’s so sad. But also they mention all those other cases and I’m like wait, are they all in this one episode or just like ads for other episodes? I got confused reading the streaming part.

  3. Peacock says $8/month but “New episodes available the next day”… so basically you can’t watch Friday night unless you pay more for something? And DirectTV trial is the move, unless your email gets “lost” like those streaming trials always do. I swear these services change the rules every week.
