When Hunter Biden picked a fight with Jake Tapper, he didn’t go after Joe Biden’s record first. He went after the messenger.
In a lengthy post on X on Wednesday. Hunter Biden took aim at the CNN journalist. arguing Tapper should focus on President Donald Trump’s family instead of “attacking” Jill Biden. his stepmother and the former first lady. “So let me get this straight. Jake Tapper is focused on attacking my Mom,” Hunter Biden wrote.
He then rattled off a string of allegations and links between Trump family members and high-profile business and political controversies. Hunter Biden wrote that “Jared [Kushner] and Ivanka [Trump] are building a private island paradise on Albanian protected land.” He added that “Don Jr married the daughter of Epstein’s banker. ” and said “a startup his fund backs just got a record $620M Pentagon loan.”.
Hunter Biden kept pushing the point that the coverage he was seeing—aimed at his stepmother—was selective. “Eric [Trump] is taking an Israeli drone company public for $1.5B in the middle of a war with Iran that nobody wanted. ” he continued. Then he turned directly to Tapper’s apparent focus on the Biden family. “And I know: ‘But what about your paintings, Hunter?’ Please.”.

Hunter Biden appeared to be reacting to Tapper’s recent criticism of Jill Biden’s new memoir, “View from the East Wing.” The book, Jill Biden says, offers candid assessments of her husband’s one-term presidency and his controversial decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Tapper’s response in a CNN article was blunt. He criticized Jill Biden’s “rosy if not blindfolded” recollection of events. Tapper described former President Joe Biden as “the most glaring example” of a past-his-prime politician who “refused to give up power.” He wrote that “The most charitable interpretation of Jill Biden’s book. particularly the parts dealing with her husband’s aging. is that she’s having difficulty accepting what’s been happening to him for years. ” and added that “The less forgiving version is that she’s been enabling it and is now seeking to try to find an excuse for what we all saw. while also suggesting here and there that there’s much more than maybe even she’s willing to admit to herself.”.
In a video posted to CNN’s Instagram account on Wednesday, Tapper reiterated many of those remarks, calling Jill Biden “the queen of omission.”
The dispute lands on top of a longer-running fight between Hunter Biden and Tapper over how political journalism should be done. Last year. Tapper drew the ire of many prominent Democrats when he and Axios reporter Alex Thompson unveiled their book “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline. Its Cover-up. and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again. ” which scrutinized the former president’s physical fitness and mental acuity while in office.
In an October interview with Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher. Hunter Biden accused Tapper of practicing “what-about-ism journalism. a both-sides journalism” that was detrimental to the profession. “I think Jake’s got to cool it on the ChatGPT and maybe give it at least a four-month period of time before he gives us another book. ” he said. “I don’t know many of his colleagues that like him or that respect him.”.

This is honestly just both sides yelling. Hunter Biden picked a fight with Tapper but then immediately goes “look at Trump family” like the CNN guy is the one running the Pentagon loans? And the whole “private island on Albanian protected land” sounds made up or at least I’ve never heard it before. Memoirs are supposed to be personal and then it turns into politics anyway, sigh.
