Hovland surges as Scheffler stumbles at Travelers finale

Viktor Hovland enters the Travelers Championship final round with a one-shot lead after a late swing on the 18th hole at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. The tournament’s $20 million purse includes $3.6 million for the winner, with payouts running
The 18th hole at TPC River Highlands decided more than momentum on Saturday—Viktor Hovland seized control of the Travelers Championship by finishing with a one-shot edge over the world’s No. 1 player.
Hovland birdied the par-4 18th, while Scottie Scheffler bogeyed it for a two-shot swing. That difference lifted Hovland into Sunday’s final round, with play beginning June 28 at 20 under par, one stroke ahead of Scheffler at 19 under.
Cantlay and Akshay Bhatia start the final round five shots off the pace at 15 under. U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark is among the group tied for fifth place at minus 13.
Tiger Woods is also back in South Florida after six weeks in Swiss rehab following his March DUI arrest and hiatus from golf, returning to the scene after time away.
The tournament is staged in Cromwell, Connecticut, and carries a total purse of $20 million, with $3.6 million going to the winner.
The Travelers Championship payout structure runs as follows: first place is $3.6 million. second is $2.16 million. third is $1.36 million. fourth is $960. 000. and fifth is $800. 000. The number for players finishing sixth through 10 starts at $720. 000 for sixth and runs to $540. 000 for 10th. then continues downward through 72nd.
Sunday’s final round will be broadcast by NBC Sports, with early coverage on the Golf Channel.

So Hovland just needed to birdie 18?? That’s wild, like one hole decides everything.
Scheffler bogeying 18 is basically the whole story I guess. Also why does every golf article mention the payouts like it’s a lottery?
I saw Tiger Woods is back after rehab and I’m like… rehab?? So he’s coming back but he’s been out for like 6 weeks? Not sure if that math is right but I hope he’s okay. And wasn’t this in Connecticut? I thought the DUI happened in Florida or something.
NBC Sports playing this final round on June 28 at 20 under or whatever… I don’t even watch golf like that but the whole “$20 million purse” thing feels like rigged to me. If Scheffler is No. 1 why does he always mess up one hole at the end? Feels like momentum got stolen or something. Also why do they keep saying par-4 18th like that course is cursed.
