Katy Perry vents after last-minute Belgium concert cancellation

Katy Perry says she learned moments before a show in Belgium was canceled because of government-mandated weather safety rules, calling it “The One That Got Away” while urging 55,000 fans to get home safely.

When Katy Perry was “backstage at the show in the middle of hair and makeup” in Belgium, she thought the night was finally on. Then someone told her the Werchter Boutique festival set on the outskirts of Brussels “would not be going forward,” and she says she was given “no choice.”

In a Saturday. June 27 Instagram post. the pop star described the cancellation as “a government mandated cancellation” stemming from inclement weather. Perry wrote that she learned of it on-site and that she understands the anger and disappointment that comes with a sudden stop. “I am just as unhappy as you are,” she said. “Unfortunately this is beyond my control, but the safety of all 55,000 of you always comes first and foremost.”.

Perry also apologized directly to fans for the missed chance to be together. “I am sorry I can’t change the weather. and even sorrier that all of us can’t be together tonight. ” she wrote. She said she was looking forward to returning to the stage after 17 years and even planned to wear the same outfit from her 2009 show. “I love you all, and please get home safe,” she added.

The festival offered its own update on June 28, saying: “A severe storm passed over the country. By closing the Festivalpark early. we were able to ensure that everyone got home safely.” That decision came after Belgium’s Royal Meteorological Institute issued an orange-level warning for “intense” storms from 6 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday, as flooded roads and closures were reported amid a record-breaking heatwave.

Perry has performed at Rock Werchter before—back in 2009—as part of her first headlining tour, the Hello Katy Tour. She is currently moving through the summer festival circuit ahead of the release of her concert film. Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris. which is set to bow in “late summer.”.

Her next scheduled show is at Depot Live in Cardiff, Wales.

  1. I don’t get why they can’t just delay it like 30 minutes? 55,000 people just got screwed and she’s like “beyond my control” yeah ok.

  2. Wait orange-level warning means like they *choose* to cancel right? My cousin was in Belgium and said it was barely raining. Sounds like festival saved money on security or something.

  3. Seems kinda messed up she was literally backstage and then they’re like nope. But also if there was flooding/closures then yeah safety first. Still… “One That Got Away” is the cutest way to say “we all went home mad,” lol. Wish they’d at least send everyone a refund fast.
