HBO Max cuts prices 40 percent ahead of Dragon season

HBO Max – HBO discounted all three HBO streaming tiers by 40 percent ahead of “House of the Dragon” season three, with the promotion running through July 15. The deal requires buying the annual plan for 12 months in advance.
Dragons are on sale.
HBO has cut the subscription price by 40 percent ahead of the return of “House of the Dragon” for season three. The discount applies to all three HBO streaming tiers: the basic plan with ads, the standard tier, and the premium tier.
The terms are strict enough to matter. The promotion doesn’t work for a month-by-month plan. To get the reduced price, subscribers have to buy the annual plan and pay for 12 months in advance.
Even with that catch, HBO is banking on more than just one premiere. “Harry Potter” is set to arrive in December, adding to the lineup aimed at genre fans.
On the show side, expectations are already running hot. “House of the Dragon” season three premieres Sunday and is currently averaging the show’s highest score yet on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 97 percent critics score.
The discount is available now through July 15. Details are listed online, but the main requirement is clear: the annual commitment is the price of admission.
Behind the push is a larger commercial story. Warner Bros. Discovery’s most recent quarterly report says HBO Max has topped 140 million subscribers, and it estimates the streamer will reach 150 million by the end of the year.
In May, David Zaslav told shareholders, “We are seeing healthy acceleration and subscriber-related revenue growth, which we expect will pick up real pace in Q2 and through the rest of the year.”
