Guerrero Jr. and Giménez return as Blue Jays face Red Sox

Fenway Park doesn’t care about yesterday’s tightness or Sunday’s sore wrist. Tuesday night, though, will look a lot different for the Blue Jays—because Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Andrés Giménez are both back in the starting lineup.

Guerrero Jr. will be at first base and slots into his usual spot third in the batting order when the Blue Jays open their series against the Boston Red Sox. Giménez, meanwhile, returns to the lineup and will bat eighth at shortstop.

Guerrero Jr. missed the past two games after experiencing back tightness Friday against the New York Yankees. In the win he did play, he went 1-for-5, delivering an RBI double and recording a strikeout. On the season, Guerrero Jr. is slashing .280/.372/.366 with three home runs and 26 RBIs.

Giménez’s absence came later, and it was more immediate. He was a late removal from Sunday’s lineup because of left wrist soreness. The early production hasn’t carried over the same way lately—after a hot start to the season, Giménez has hit .222 with six home runs and 30 RBIs.

The pitching match sets up a straight contrast in style. Dylan Cease gets the start for the Blue Jays as they try to bounce back from a series loss at home against the Yankees. Boston counters with power lefty Payton Tolle.

With Guerrero Jr. back in the middle of Toronto’s order and Giménez returning after a day-to-day scare, this opener becomes less about what happened last week and more about whether Toronto can keep its rhythm going—starting immediately at Fenway.

  1. Back tightness for two games then he’s back? That’s wild. Also Gimenez at 8th like… they’re just changing spots to pretend it didn’t happen.

  2. I don’t get it, they said Gimenez was sore at Fenway Park like yesterday and Sunday, but then he’s starting?? Sounds like the article is contradicting itself or I read it wrong. Either way .222 is kinda rough, wonder if he’s gonna be replaced by some other guy.

  3. Cease vs Tolle… that’s gonna be all pitching talk but the real drama is Guerrero Jr back at first and still batting third, like nothing happened. He had 1-for-5 with an RBI double but only like 3 homers?? Not sure if Toronto is actually “in rhythm” like the headline says, feel like they’re just hoping the injuries don’t come back.
