A new horror anthology is preparing to land like a warning label—loud, graphic, and unapologetic. Oni Press has announced The EC Comics Treasury of Terror #1, a “treasury-sized compendium” drawn from the first two years of EC’s Eisner Award-nominated resurrection.
The book stands tall at 10″ × 14”, a format Oni Press says makes it possible “to see each and every stab wound in excruciating detail.” On the calendar, the release is set for September 9, with Oni Press and EC Comics unleashing the collection on an unexpecting world.
The pitch is not subtle. Oni Press is presenting a specially selected set of horror tales—fan-favorite stories “culled from across” Epitaphs of the Abyss. Catacomb of Torment. Cruel Kingdon. Shiver Suspenstories. and more of EC’s most infamous comic publications. The result is framed as a kind of murderers’ row: a lineup of comic legends whose imaginations. the announcement says. specialize in violence and mayhem.
Among the named stories is “Prohibition,” excerpted as a preview by Cullen Bunn and Andrea Sorrentino. The excerpt is paired with another preview, “Fire In The Hole” by Tony Moore.
What ties the volume together is the promise of first official scale. The announcement calls The EC Comics Treasury of Terror Vol. 1 the first official EC Comics treasury edition ever released, a “hefty slab of horrific intent and malign influence” built from tales of murder and mayhem.
The creator roster reads like a roster reel for horror and genre storytelling: Jason Aaron. Cullen Bunn. Chris Condon. Patricia A. Jackson, Kano, Matt Kindt, David Lapham, Shawn Martinbrough, Christopher Mitten, Tony Moore, Greg Pak, Stephanie Phillips, Andrea Sorrentino, and more. It also lists specific projects attached to several of those names—Jason Aaron alongside a “terrifying concept on its own. ” Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun). Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine). Patricia A. Jackson (Star Wars Adventure Journal). Kano (Gotham Central). Matt Kindt (BRZRKR). David Lapham (Stray Bullets). Shawn Martinbrough (Detective Comics). Christopher Mitten (Hellboy). Tony Moore (Fear Agent). Greg Pak (Planet Hulk). Stephanie Phillips (Planet She-Hulk).
The book is designed to be bought as a physical event, too. The announcement points readers to the “cadaverous cover” from Tyler Crook (Out of Alcatraz) and directs comic shop buyers to pick up The EC Comics Treasury of Terror Vol. 1 on September 9.
For those tracking the specifics. the published details in the announcement run as follows: Writers listed are Andrea Sorrentino. Chris Condon. Matt Kindt. Tony Moore. Stephanie Phillips & More; Artists are David Lapham. Kano. Shawn Martinbrough. Tony Moore. Andrea Sorrentino & More. Cover art is credited to Tyler Crook, and on sale is given as 9/9/2026. September 9? Cool I guess, but isn’t EC Comics like the old horror stuff from forever ago? Didn’t think they’d print anything “unapologetic” again tbh.
I saw “stab wound in excruciating detail” and I’m like… okay who asked for this 😂 But I kinda wanna read it just to see if it’s actually as graphic as they’re bragging. Horror anthologies are always hit or miss though.
Wait so this is a new EC Comics treasury edition but it says it’s from the first two years of their Eisner Award-nominated resurrection?? That sounds like they made it up after the fact. Also “Prohibition” preview—does that mean it’s about alcohol or just murders during prohibition like the title?
Ten by fourteen?? That’s HUGE for a comic, like a coffee table book size. I don’t get why they keep calling it a “warning label” lol. Either way, if it’s really “first official scale” then good for them I guess. I just hope they didn’t censor anything because they’re hyping it like it’s gonna be all gore.
