A left wrist issue cost Gimenez his spot at the last moment, and the Blue Jays’ lineup shuffle didn’t stop there. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. remained sidelined for the day due to back tightness, keeping Toronto without its biggest bat.

Gimenez was removed from the lineup as a late decision because of left wrist soreness. Patrick Corbin will take the start at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT, with the game set for Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.

Guerrero Jr. continues to deal with back tightness. Blue Jays manager John Schneider explained the team’s approach had been cautious. “Back was a little tight yesterday, and been kind of grinding, so just wanted to give him a blow. Talked to him after the game, but he’s feeling a little bit better today,” Schneider said on Saturday.

Guerrero told reporters that his back tightened up during Friday’s win. turning what looked like a grind through the schedule into another day of uncertainty. On Friday, he went 1-for-5, with an RBI double and a strikeout. The slump has been especially visible at home: Guerrero has yet to hit a home run at home this season. and his most recent dinger overall came on May 17 against the Detroit Tigers.

With Guerrero Jr. out, the lineup moved to cover the gaps. Alejandro Kirk will be back behind the plate after he was left out of the lineup Saturday. Ernie Clement shifts to shortstop, and Davis Schneider gets the start at second base. Charles McAdoo continues to slot in at first base, batting ninth.

The stakes for the lineup weren’t theoretical after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to New York, a game where Toronto struggled to produce offensively. Louis Varland surrendered a two-run home run in the ninth inning, sealing the result.

Toronto now gets a day off on Monday before opening a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
