Obama calls Trump ‘bully’ after Michelle name UFC night

Obama slams – Hours after Michelle Obama was dragged into Donald Trump’s White House UFC birthday celebration with a crude remark from fighter Josh Hokit, Barack Obama criticized Trump’s approach to foreign policy—arguing the incoming U.S.-Iran deal won’t meaningfully impro

Barack Obama didn’t wait for the next headline. In an interview aired Sunday, June 14, the former president went after the instinct to solve major conflicts through intimidation—specifically pointing to “bully” tactics in foreign policy.

His warning landed the same night Michelle Obama was pulled into Donald Trump’s world, dragged into Trump’s White House UFC birthday bash hours earlier after heavy fighter Josh Hokit made a false and offensive remark about her during his post-fight speech.

Obama said he was “doubtful” Trump’s plan would amount to anything “significantly different” or a “significant improvement” from the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated during the Obama administration. The timing was hard to miss: Trump had just announced a new U.S.-Iran deal was nearly finalized. with a formal signing scheduled in Switzerland on Friday. June 19.

“It’s a reminder that on a lot of different foreign policy problems, the notion we can just bully our way or bomb our way to a solution may sometimes seem appealing,” Obama said. He followed it with a blunt acknowledgement of how often the lesson gets lost.

“You’d think we would’ve learned that lesson by now, but it seems like every so often we have to learn that lesson again, he added.”

Across the same weekend. the focus of attention was also domestic—where the tone used in public quickly turned into something more personal. Sunday was the night of Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 event. The celebration drew backlash after Hokit made the remark that, “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”.

Trump did not address the comment. Then, the next day, Monday, June 15, the president praised Hokit and other winning fighters on Truth Social.

While Michelle Obama’s name became part of a viral political moment on one front, Barack Obama used another front to argue that Trump’s approach may be circling back to the same dispute—this time through nuclear diplomacy.

Obama defended the original Iran agreement, arguing it had successfully limited Iran’s nuclear program until Trump pulled the U.S. out during his first term. Trump walked away from the 2015 deal in 2018, calling it one of the worst deals ever made and reimposing heavy sanctions on Iran.

The new deal Trump is preparing to sign has not been made public yet. Still, the roadmap is clear on timing and stakes: both sides will have 60 days after Friday, June 19 to negotiate issues related to Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump administration officials say Iran will need to destroy its stockpile of highly enriched uranium and agree to international inspections before any sanctions are lifted.

That framework is why some people are already comparing Trump’s coming agreement to the JCPOA—under which Iran agreed to strict enrichment limits. major reductions to its nuclear stockpile. and broad international inspections. The Obama administration said the JCPOA was doing its job by keeping Iran’s nuclear program in check.

Republicans, though, have long argued the deal was too lenient toward Iran, saying it handed Tehran economic benefits without a permanent end to its nuclear program.

Obama’s view now suggests a different kind of comeback—one built on repetition rather than progress. He said it’s “doubtful” Trump’s next agreement will break away from the past.

“It is doubtful that any agreement that arises is going to be significantly different or a significant improvement from the deal that we had in the first place and had worked for, for a long stretch of time before we, the United States, pulled out of it,” he said.

  1. Obama calling Trump a bully is rich considering the whole Iran deal stuff. People just want headlines.

  2. Wait so Michelle was at the UFC thing and some dude said something about her being a man?? That’s insane. Also Obama saying bully tactics like… isn’t that what Obama did too with negotiations? I’m lost.

  3. “Incoming U.S.-Iran deal won’t be a significant improvement” like duh it’s literally the same guys again. But why does UFC even need to be in politics? Next thing you know they’re gonna bring the nuclear talks into a cage match.

  4. This is all just theatrics. Trump tries to “bully” the other countries and then Obama throws shade like he’s innocent. The timing is funny though, Michelle getting dragged into the UFC birthday bash then Obama goes on about foreign policy like anyone’s gonna care. Also the fighter’s quote—idk how that even got allowed on stage. Sounds like everybody just runs their mouths and nobody reads the fine print.
