Netflix confirmed “Gilmore Girls” will leave the platform in the U.S. on June 30, ending a streaming run that brought Stars Hollow to a new generation almost a decade after the show’s 2007 finale. Fans are already reacting, with some threatening to cancel subs

A last cup of coffee in Stars Hollow is coming—whether viewers are ready for it or not.

Netflix confirmed on June 15 that “Gilmore Girls” will be leaving the service in the U.S. later this month. The series first aired from 2000 to 2007, but it didn’t disappear from screens when the finale ended. Instead. it returned to prominence after the show landed on Netflix nearly a decade later. pulling in fans who discovered it long after Lorelai and Rory became part of pop culture.

For many viewers, it’s that Netflix-era resurgence that made the news feel so abrupt. Some fans even threatened to cancel their Netflix subscriptions in response.

The show’s quick-talking rhythm and its tight-knit cast helped it become a cult classic over the years. “Gilmore Girls” centered on Lorelai, played by Lauren Graham, and her bookish teen daughter Rory, played by Alexis Bledel, in their small, fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow.

The series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, who co-created the show and also co-wrote, served as executive producers, and directed on it.

Among the ensemble characters are diner owner Luke (Scott Patterson); inn chef Sookie (Melissa McCarthy); town oddball Kirk (Sean Gunn); bawdy dance teacher Ms. Patty (Liz Torres); chatty neighbor Babette (Sally Struthers); Rory’s best friend Lane (Keiko Agena); and Mrs. Kim (Emily Kuroda), the strict antique shop owner and Lane’s mother.

The streaming departure date is now set: Netflix said the last day to stream “Gilmore Girls” on Netflix will be Tuesday, June 30.

Netflix said in a post on X: “We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-7 will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30,” adding, “Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us.”

The show’s Netflix return has been a recurring point for those involved with the series. Yanic Truesdale. who played Michel Gerard. told the outlet on the show’s 25th anniversary that Netflix “reintroduced it to a whole new generation.” He said that “to this day. 14-year-old girls stop me all the time. as if it’s a brand-new show that they just discovered.”.

David Sutcliffe. who starred as Lorelai’s ex. Christopher Hayden. described what recognition looked like after the Netflix debut—saying he “couldn’t go anywhere without being recognized. ” including “Like going to a bar at night. ” where he said girls would swarm him. He also said that had “never happened to me when the show was on the air.”.

Between the Hulu option and the pressure fans feel right now, the practical question is simple: where do you go next?

Besides Netflix, “Gilmore Girls” is streaming on Hulu, and it is expected to remain available on Disney+. That matters for viewers who don’t just watch the series occasionally—they build routines around it.

There’s also the question of what happens to the continuation. While Netflix has not revealed plans for the 2016 continuation. “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. ” Decider reported that the four-part series is expected to leave Netflix at the end of the year because Warner Bros. owns the “Gilmore Girls” intellectual property. The media outlet also said Netflix was a co-producer and was given only 10 years of streaming.

  1. June 30?? I literally just started it on Netflix like last week. So annoying. Guess I’m canceling my sub too, not even gonna lie.

  2. I’m confused because I thought it ended in 2007 and that was that. But now it’s like it came back on Netflix “almost a decade later” so June 30 makes no sense?? Like what, they’re removing reruns for no reason. I’m gonna need a new place to watch Stars Hollow I guess.

  3. They’re really just yanking it June 30 while everybody’s in the middle of binging lol. Also Stars Hollow is fictional but somehow it’s the only thing keeping me sane, so yeah I might drop Netflix. If they put it on another service I’ll still pay, just not to the same company… unless it’s still Netflix, which I doubt.
