Giannis trade talks risk sliding past Tuesday deadline

Giannis trade – With next Tuesday’s NBA Draft nearing, leaguewide patience around the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo trade deadline is fraying after Chris Haynes said confidence has dropped that a deal will be reached by then.

A week out from next Tuesday’s NBA Draft. many NBA front offices and player agents had started treating a possible Giannis Antetokounmpo trade like a clock that was finally about to run out. Since early May. the Milwaukee Bucks’ self-imposed deadline to move Antetokounmpo had been viewed across the league as the point where this drawn-out saga would resolve.

Wednesday brought a sharp turn to that expectation. On Sirius XM’s Deals & Dunks show, Chris Haynes raised the possibility that there might not be a resolution by early next week. In his words, the situation could extend well beyond the Draft.

“From what I’m hearing, this can drag on into free agency. This can drag on into July.”

Haynes shared that message as part of his discussion of Antetokounmpo’s future in Brewtown, describing it as a roller-coaster that has continued for more than a year and took another wild dip.

Even as that uncertainty landed, it didn’t end the tension so much as deepen it. Haynes also said he was still optimistic, and then pointed to what he believes is important about the Bucks.

Given how closely the league had tracked the Bucks’ early-May posture toward a trade by Tuesday. the prospect of no resolution by the Draft forces everyone involved to confront a hard reality: they may have to plan for outcomes beyond a single. neat deadline. For teams waiting to see what’s available. and for players whose timelines are tied to a deal finally happening. that shift is not just a scheduling problem—it changes the emotional temperature of the negotiations.

That’s where the story sits right now: anticipation built around a Tuesday finish line, followed by the suggestion that the process could run into free agency and even July, even while optimism remains in the mix.

  1. Wait so they’re really gonna just… not trade him by Tuesday? Bucks better not play games with peoples time.

  2. I saw this on X and everyone was like “deadline coming” but now it’s “could drag into July”?? Sounds like they’re stalling for leverage or something. Giannis just pick a team already.

  3. Chris Haynes saying it could go past the draft is basically just rumor math. Like if the Bucks wait too long then the Magic or whoever won’t have cap space or whatever. Idk, free agency in July sounds fake like these people always say.

  4. Honestly this is why I hate the NBA draft hype. Everyone acting like Tuesday is a real day when they’re clearly gonna extend it. If it drags to free agency does that mean he’s already gone? Or does the Bucks just keep him “for now” and waste another year… I’m confused.
