Howard, Gray power Dream past Fever 113-96

Rhyne Howard scored 24 points and Allisha Gray added 22 as the Atlanta Dream beat the Indiana Fever 113-96 for a third straight win before a sold-out 17,044 at State Farm Arena. Angel Reese reached 1,000 career rebounds in the Dream’s win.

ATLANTA — The sold-out crowd at State Farm Arena didn’t have to wait long to feel the momentum shift. Rhyne Howard scored 24 points and Allisha Gray added 22 as the Atlanta Dream ran the Indiana Fever off the floor in a 113-96 victory on Saturday.

Angel Reese, meanwhile, made history while doing damage on the scoreboard. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds, hitting the milestone in her 79th game. Reese finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Dream (11-4) earned their third straight win in front of 17. 044 fans inside State Farm Arena. home of the NBA’s Hawks. This game was also part of a rare stretch at the downtown venue: it’s one of five the Dream are playing at State Farm this season. Normally, the Dream play at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which has a capacity of 5,000 fans.

Atlanta’s win came just two days after they beat the Fever 108-101 on Thursday on the road, giving them a second victory in three days against Caitlin Clark and Indiana.

Clark scored a team-high 26 points for the Fever (9-7). Kelsey Mitchell had 16 points, and Aliyah Boston and Sophie Cunningham each scored 13.

Saturday’s atmosphere carried extra attention beyond the score. South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley was on hand, along with the Hawks’ Jalen Johnson and C.J. McCollum. The Falcons’ Avieon Terrell and Grammy nominated singer Latto were also in attendance.

Staley received a standing ovation as she watched seven of her former players between the two teams.

Elsewhere in the league:

In Phoenix. Valeriane Ayayi scored 18 points with 10 rebounds as the Mercury snapped a four-game losing streak by extending Seattle’s skid to 10 straight. Kahleah Copper added 17 points for the Mercury (5-12), who pulled away with a 14-0 run to start the third quarter. Noemie Brochant contributed a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists, while Natasha Mack added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lexi Held scored 11 in her first career start, and DeWanna Bonner added 10.

Natisha Hiedeman led the Storm (3-14) with 20 points, and rookie Flau’jae Johnson scored 13. Dominique Malonga and reserve Zia Cooke added 10 points each.

In Arlington. Texas. Li Yueru made two free throws with 12.5 seconds left to give Dallas its first lead as the Wings scored a season high 36 points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 14-point deficit and beat Chicago. Jessica Shepard scored 17 of her 21 points in the second half and added eight rebounds as Dallas (10-6) won its sixth straight home game.

Paige Bueckers added 19 points, scoring 10 of 11 points for Dallas during one stretch of the rally. She finished with eight assists and seven rebounds. Rookie Azzi Fudd scored 13, and Arike Ogunbowale added 12 as the Wings matched their win total from last season.

Kamilla Cardoso had 26 points—one short of her career high—and nine rebounds for Chicago (4-11), which has lost five in a row. Rookie Sydney Taylor scored 18 points before fouling out. Skylar Diggins had 14, and Natasha Cloud added 10.

  1. So Angel Reese just got 1,000 rebounds in like a month or something? Fastest ever or whatever. Also why was Latto there lol.

  2. Not gonna lie I thought Caitlin Clark didn’t even play for the Fever anymore, but it says she scored 26. I guess the WNBA stats are confusing. Reese reaching 1000 in her 79th game sounds fake though, like how do they track that? Either way, Dream must be stacked right now.

  3. I’m just stuck on “State Farm Arena” like they’re at the Hawks home but then the Dream usually at that College Park place. Why switch it up if it’s not gonna sell out every time? Also Reese standing out with rebounds is cool but 18 and 8 like ok still beat by 17, so defense? Idk, just glad Staley got a standing ovation.
