Garrett Wilson skips Knicks Finals tickets despite $32.5m salary

Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson says Madison Square Garden tickets are “too expensive” for him, even as the Knicks return to the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly three decades and New York eyes a title since 1973.
Garrett Wilson is fired up to watch the Knicks chase a championship. Just not from a seat at Madison Square Garden.
The New York Jets wide receiver is enjoying the idea of the Knicks being back in the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly three decades. but the cost of tickets in New York is putting a hard stop on his plans. With the Knicks set to face Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of their 1999 showdown. Wilson says he won’t be forking out for any of the games.
On a resale site at the time of writing. the cheapest ticket for Game 3 in New York is listed at more than $4. 700. Seats for Game 6 are on sale for $5,100-plus, and the most expensive Game 6 ticket listed is available for $224,000. Wilson. who earns an average salary of $32.5 million a year after agreeing to a four-year deal worth $130 million last year. said the price is simply beyond him.
“I’m glad I’m up here for it – I’m rooting the Knicks on like hell,” Wilson said. But when asked if he would be going to any of the games, he replied: “Them jawns are expensive. So, not yet. I’m gonna be watching.”
That choice still fits the bigger pull Wilson says the Finals represent—especially for his fellow fans in New York. He pointed to the Knicks inspiring the Jets as they try to end a 15-year playoff drought, the longest active skid in North American sports.
“The city deserves it,” Wilson continued. “Then, when you see the way they receive it, it’s just like we wish it could happen every year. Seeing the people, the way they get behind their team.”
Wilson also framed his own excitement in terms of what the Knicks’ run can teach the Jets. “I know Jet fans are frothing at the mouth to cheer like that. and we want to give it to them. I personally want to give it to them the most,” he said. “Wilson continued: ‘That gives us a taste of what it might look like when we figure this thing out… we’re excited for the opportunity.’”.
Game 1 of the NBA finals begins in San Antonio on Wednesday, June 3, with Wilson staying glued to the TV rather than the ticket desk—at least for now.

Lmao $4,700 tickets is insane. I wouldn’t go either.
So he’s “rooting for them” but won’t buy tickets?? That’s kinda wild for someone making 32.5 million. Also why is the finals in San Antonio again isn’t it like… always in NY or whatever.
Wait, who is Victor Wembanyama? Spurs player? I saw this headline and thought it was about a Jets game or something. But yeah MSG prices are ridiculous, like the scalpers be outta control. Still 224k is crazy though, who is even paying that.
He could get complimentary seats though right? Like famous athletes always have “friends and family” passes, so I don’t really buy the whole “too expensive” thing. $32.5 million sounds like he can afford it, unless he’s worried about taxes or something. Either way I’m just mad Knicks fans will be there and my team never gets anything lol.
