When Monday afternoon arrived, the Eagles didn’t just shuffle their receiving room — they pulled the trigger on A.J. Brown’s exit for good. Philadelphia announced it has agreed to send Brown to New England in exchange for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection.

The trade still has one required step: Brown will need to pass a physical before the deal is finalized. Philadelphia’s cap situation also shifted right at the boundary point that mattered most. Trading Brown became less onerous at 4 p.m. ET on June 1, and the Eagles’ announcement came minutes after that moment passed.

New England will now inherit the final four years of Brown’s contract. For the Eagles, the financial impact will be managed by splitting their remaining cap hit over the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

The move doesn’t happen in isolation. The Eagles have already added veteran receivers Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks. and they drafted Makai Lemon in the first round of April’s draft. With Brown moving on, DeVonta Smith remains, joining Jalen Hurts as the franchise’s top targets for the coming season.

In New England, Brown’s role is immediate in a way the Patriots can build a season around. He will become Drake Maye’s No. 1 receiver. and the reunion has a familiar edge: Brown will be back with his former head coach from the Titans. Mike Vrabel. It’s the same connection that helped shape Brown’s past success. including the Super Bowl ring he earned in Philadelphia — now aiming for another. this time as part of a new push in New England.

  1. So they just gave away A.J. Brown for basically vibes and a pick? I don’t get how that’s fair, like what happened to building around Hurts.

  2. Wait the Patriots taking on the “final four years” means he’s like already locked in until 2030 right? Also why did they need a physical like he didn’t play last year? Sounds messy.

  3. The physical is probably just to make sure he’s good, but isn’t he on some kind of injury list? I swear these teams always act like it’s a cliffhanger and then it’s suddenly fine.

  4. Patriots getting Brown is wild, but Eagles still have Smith so it’s like they’re trading one receiver for another? Idk I feel like the 2028 first-round pick won’t even be high, and then Eagles lose again. Cap stuff always confuses me.
