Frank Stronach convicted as sexual assault case turns

Canadian auto parts magnate Frank Stronach was found guilty on June 19 of one count of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault, with the judge calling some of his behavior “gross and disgusting.” Prosecutors alleged crimes spanning from the early 1980

TORONTO — Frank Stronach stood in court long enough for the verdict to land on Friday, June 19. After a trial that began in February, Ontario Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy found the 93-year-old Austrian-born billionaire guilty on two counts tied to allegations that stretched back decades.

Molloy convicted Stronach of one count of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault. In her judgment, the judge described some of his behavior as “gross and disgusting.”

The court’s findings focused on two separate incidents. Molloy found Stronach guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in the early 1980s. after the woman alleged she visited his Toronto condo following dinner nearby. The judge also found him guilty of one indecent assault charge in the late 1970s. involving a woman who said he groped her at his condo.

Stronach did not testify during the trial.

The conviction came even as several other allegations were rejected. Molloy found Stronach not guilty on other charges, including attempted rape and rape.

Stronach’s legal team signaled immediate disagreement with the outcome on the two counts that remain. Leora Shemesh. one of Stronach’s lawyers. said in an email that the defense is “extremely happy” that the more serious charges—rape and additional counts of sexual assault—were dismissed. She added, “We are disappointed by the convictions on the two very minor offenses.”.

Police arrested and charged Stronach in 2024 with criminal offenses that included sexual assault and rape. for alleged crimes dating from the 1970s to 2024. The stakes for him were also shaped by his prominence: he founded Canadian auto parts company Magna International in 1957 and later became one of Canada’s richest people.

Magna said it has had no affiliation with Stronach since he relinquished control of the company in 2010.

While the verdict closes one chapter, it does not end the case against him. Stronach will be sentenced later, and he faces another sexual assault trial next year.

The sequence of outcomes—guilty findings paired with not-guilty verdicts on attempted rape and rape—means the legal fight is now narrower in scope. but not over. For Stronach, the court’s language leaves little room for doubt about what was accepted by the judge. For the defense, the dismissal of the highest-profile counts is now part of their foundation for what comes next.

  1. So he got convicted but they called the other stuff not proven? Sounds like Canada is finally doing something.

  2. “Minor offenses”??? That wording makes me so mad. Like groping is minor now?? idk how anyone can be happy about that.

  3. I’m confused, because it says gross and disgusting but then not guilty on attempted rape and rape. Either way he’s like 93, so what happens next, house arrest? Also why did they wait until 2024 to arrest him.

  4. This dude was rich rich, so of course it took forever. I heard from a TikTok that billionaire cases always get watered down to “indecent assault” and then everybody moves on. Doesn’t feel like justice to me, especially if it’s still going to another trial next year.
