On Friday, Majay Thompson stepped up during a ceremony at his high school in Shelby, North Carolina, and announced his commitment to Florida State.
The three-star wide receiver chose the Seminoles over Alabama, Georgia and Wake Forest, becoming part of Florida State’s #Tribe27 class for the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Thompson listed 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, and his recruiting profile carries multiple rankings from major industry services. Rivals ranks him as the No. 986 overall player nationally, the No. 136 wide receiver and the No. 32 prospect in North Carolina. The 247Composite rates him as a three-star prospect, the No. 79 wide receiver nationally and the No. 21 player in North Carolina.
On the field at Crest High School as a junior. Thompson totaled 53 receptions for 865 yards and 13 touchdowns. averaging 16.3 yards per catch. He also added a special teams score with a punt return touchdown. In his sophomore season, he produced 46 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 16.2 yards per reception.
His recruitment drew more than two dozen offers from major programs, with Alabama, Georgia and Wake Forest emerging as his final contenders. Wake Forest was viewed as a legitimate runner-up, while Georgia had been a serious threat and nearly secured his commitment earlier in the spring.
Florida State’s momentum shifted after Thompson’s official visit to Tallahassee on June 12. That trip. paired with what was described as one of his biggest NIL opportunities and potential playing time. helped the Seminoles secure the decision. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell played a central role in the recruitment.
With Thompson’s pledge, Florida State now has 11 commitments in the 2027 cycle, including two wide receivers. The class features four four-star recruits and seven three-star prospects.

FSU really be out here buying recruits with NIL again, huh.
So is this like a new transfer portal thing or did he just commit? The article says 2027 which is wild. I’m just glad UNC kids still make plays.
No way he’s a real difference maker, 5-11 180 sounds like every receiver ever. Also I don’t get why Alabama and Georgia lost him after “nearly secured” earlier like that means nothing. Might be all NIL and then coaching promises.
“Tribe27” sounds like a marketing thing more than football lol. But he had 13 touchdowns and a punt return TD?? That’s actually pretty crazy. I don’t know why Wake Forest would let him slip, I thought those guys always recruit Raleigh-area vibes.
