Erasmus names 51-man Springbok squad for training camp

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus cast his net wide when he named a 51-player squad, featuring 21 uncapped players, for the team’s first training camp of the season. Teams for the double-header featuring the matches between South Africa and the Barbarians, as well as South Africa ‘A’ versus Zimbabwe, in Gqeberha on the 21st of this month, will be selected from this group. With Bulls players unavailable for selection after reaching the United Rugby Championship final, Erasmus included a number of junior players in his squad.
They include national under-20 players such as flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed, prop Danie Kruger and centre Markus Muller. Stormers loose forward Paul de Villiers, prop Bathobele Hlekani and scrumhalf Imad Khan are among the other uncapped players. The squad will assemble in Johannesburg on Monday.
