Goalie Marco Carducci returns to Calgary, faces old rivals

The HFX goalie had no chance on either strike. “Ultimately, my job was to do the best I could for my team, and we came up a bit short, which is obviously frustrating,” admitted Carducci. “It’s a loss, and we knew it was going to be a big challenge. But, of course, it felt like it had a little extra element for me.” Lost in all the hoopla of the legend’s return was the clean-sheet put up by Cavs goalie Nathan Ingham, Carducci’s replacement, who
notched his fourth shutout in eight games played with his new crew. But the spotlight was understandably on the ’keeper at the other end of the pitch. “Enjoyable,” said Cavalry gaffer Tommy Wheeldon Jr., when asked about facing Carducci for the first time. “If we’d have lost, I’d have probably had a different reply. “But he’s good lad,” continued Wheeldon, who made Carducci one of his very first signings way back in 2018. “We have many years together here. The was the first time I’ve
got a chance to see him and speak to him since his departure (in the winter) — and time flies. But the moments we had together will be remembered for a lifetime.” Those highlights include a couple of regular-season titles — in 2019 and ’23 — and the league’s playoff championship in 2024.

Goalies always get the headline lol.
So he came back and still got cooked? I don’t get how they say “no chance on either strike” like that’s some excuse. Also Cavs goalie had a shutout?? Must’ve been rigged or something.
I’m confused—are “strikes” like actual hockey strikes or just shots on goal? Either way Carducci’s “replacement” Nathan Ingham getting a 4th shutout in 8 games sounds insane. But then they’re saying Carducci had a big moment? Sounds like both teams just traded goalies and called it a storyline.
“Big challenge” is code for Calgary fans being loud, right? And the coach saying he “made him one of his very first signings” like that means anything if he couldn’t keep a clean sheet. Meanwhile they’re praising the other goalie like he’s the only reason—yet the article makes it sound like Carducci was unlucky. Time flies… but also players should stay retired if they’re gonna lose.
